Alice Springs Desert Park
In addition to wandering the 3,200-acre (1,300-hectare) grounds themselves, visit the nocturnal house, which mimics the night desert, to view rare and endangered animals such as bilbies and carnivorous ghost bats. Stop by the aquarium for a look at animals you might find in a waterhole including fish, yabbies, burrowing frogs, and turtles. Take advantage of interpretative displays, daily talks, and staff demos to learn about the diverse desert ecosystems.

The Alice Springs Desert Park is open daily, from early morning to evening, except Christmas Day. Last entry is an hour and a half before close. The Nocturnal House has somewhat shorter hours. Informational programs are scheduled throughout the day.
In addition to learning about the flora and fauna that thrive in the arid deserts of central Australia, visitors may get an introduction to the region’s traditional owners, Aboriginal people belonging to the Arrernte language group. Discover how they have shared custody over the land for thousands of years through bush tucker foods, Dreamtime stories, and cultural traditions.
