Inner Court & Hall of Knights (Binnenhof & Ridderzaal)
The Hague’s 13th-century Binnenhof (Inner Court) complex encompasses several landmarks, including the Gothic Ridderzaal (Hall of Knights)—a state building characterized by medieval-style turrets. Now home to the Dutch Parliament, the heritage site attracts visitors with a blend of courtly features and political significance.

The Basics

Round-trip tours from Amsterdam provide hassle-free transfers to The Hague. Take advantage of day tours that include other South Holland highlights, such as Rotterdam or Delft, for a regional overview, or explore even further afield on a range of extended day trips, some of which go as  far as Belgium. Take time to admire Binnenhof’s Gothic facades on walking tour, or get a taste of Dutch culture on a tour that includes the Hague’s culinary hotspots as well as historical landmarks.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Binnenhof is a working parliament, so be prepared for security checks.
  • A visit to the Binnenhof and Ridderzaal is a must for anyone interested in history or politics.
  • The Ridderzaal is currently inaccessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

How to Get There
Sightseeing tours typically include round-trip transfers from Amsterdam accommodations. Alternatively, direct trains run regularly between Den Haag Centraal and Amsterdam Centraal. Binnenhof is a 10-minute walk west of the central station; Centrum, Spui, and Kalvermarkt/Stadhuis are the nearest tram stops.

When to Get There

Binnenhof’s Visitor Center only offers interior tours in English on Saturdays; multi-language audio-guides are available midweek. The Ridderzaal is closed on Prince’s Day every September, when the monarch delivers their annual speech from the hall.

The Peace Palace
Just a short walk north of Binnenhof, you can find the Peace Palace, the Hague’s architectural crown jewel and home to the International Court of Justice. Here you can learn more about the Hague’s 20th-century history, as well as the work of the United Nations, or simply enjoy the serene gardens and striking facade.
