The Basics

The Abu Simbel Temples were originally carved into solid rock cliffs but were moved in the 1960s so that they would not be submerged by the Aswan High Dam. They now sit near the banks of Lake Nasser. Most tours of the temple complex depart from the city of Aswan and include transportation and a guided tour of the temples.

Good option of transfer
We chose the option for only driver for 2 persons, no need of guide in Abu Simbel, all information check in Wikipedia. The driver was punctual, the car was good, we arrived in 2h 30 min and stayed there around 1h30m. In the way back driver offered us some snacks and drinks. It was a long trip but totally worth it!

4-Days Nile Cruise From Aswan To Luxor including Abu Simbel and Hot Air Balloon
This is a great way to explore the historical sites along the Niles river. The tour offer airport/hotel/train station pick up and drop off service, easy way to get to the cruise ship. The cruise ship is clean and equipped with everything we needed and the staffs are friendly and hospitable. The tour guide assigned to us was Muhamad Sultan. He is knowledgeable, well spoken and very accommodating. Definitely highly recommended tour.

Watching the Abu Simbel Sun Festival

Twice a year—on October 22nd and February 22nd—the sun briefly illuminates the four statues in the central chamber of the Great Temple of Ramses II. These dates are marked by the Abu Simbel Sun Festival, and the event draws big crowds. See the early morning illumination, then enjoy live music, dancing, and traditional foods throughout the rest of the day.
