The Basics

The only way to explore the sprawling ruins of Delphi is on foot. Visiting with a tour guide offers a greater insight into the fascinating history of the archaeological site, while the nearby Delphi Archaeological Museum offers an array of exhibits.. Most visitors choose to visit on a day tour from Athens or Patras, often combined with nearby attractions such as Arachova, Saint Lucas Monastery, or Meteora.

Our guide Effie was super friendly & knowledgeable. The bus was v comfortable..lots of room for everyone being a group of 20. Effie gave is a history of the area & its importance in Greek history. We stopped at a village on the way back that was v beautiful. For solos..skip the hours lunch & see the local area & eat there.

Excellent guide and a trip you don't want to miss

Delphi One Day Trip from Athens
Our guide, Evan, did a fantastic job! He was very knowledgeable and explained everything very well. Stops were well spaced out to give us a break on a very hot day. The bus was clean and comfortable. I would definitely book with this tour company again!!! In the ancient world, Delphi was the place you came to find out answers (will I win this battle, should I do this business deal, etc.). Come see the place that held this power.

Private Delphi & Thermopylae Tour from Athens
Wonderful tour of Thermopylae and Delphi in a private van. Van was spacious with great A/C. Our driver/guide, Denis, drove safely and gave great commentary at each of the stops. He also recommended a taverna in Delphi that had marvelous views and excellent food. All in all, worth the money and a super tour.

Delphi One Day Trip from Athens
The site at Delphi is amazing and the scenery is grand. The guides did a very good job, but it would have been nice to have a bit more time on our own at the site. The restaurant experience took too much time.

Delphi Private Full Day Tour from Athens
This was a great day with so much to see. Petros our driver was incredibly knowledgeable and we learned so much about Greece on the ride. The ride was smooth and comfortable. Delphi was beautiful and we are so glad we were able to see it. The monastery stop was very enjoyable and the views were one in a million. Definitely recommend.

Delphi Full Day Tour
The whole experience was fantastic. The driver, Panos, was excellent and flexible to what we wanted to do. He also took us to a restaurant in Delphi that has one of the best views we’ve ever seen. Absolutely recommend.

Great day with Dimitrius

Sacred Delphi & Osios Loukas in a Full Day Private Tour
We loved Dimitrius as our guide. He was a great driver, very attentive to us and friendly. Be aware this tour does not provide a guide at Delphi; you are on your own. And the drive from Athens is long. The monastery was spectacular, a real highlight.

Delphi: A Day Tour at the Navel of the World from Athens
I really enjoyed this tour. The bus was very cool and comfortable, the trip easy, and our guides and driver were excellent. They organised and paced the day very well. It was more relaxed having a smaller group (due to COVID). I recommend the tour highly.

Delphi: A Day Tour at the Navel of the World from Athens
Negative: Internet in the bus was not working. Nor charging possibilities. Positive: super experienced and friendly guides (Anastsia (speaking German) and Martina) and driver (Panagioti).

Delphi Day Trip from Athens
Vicky and Demetria, our tour guides were excellent. Giorgios is a safe driver. We very much appreciated them. We learned a lot with all the info we got from our guides. The phone application was not great as we could hear echo sounds, and sometimes it would stop working while the guide was speaking.

Delphi Day Trip from Athens
Stefanie was our guide and she was a wealth of knowledge. Everybody in my family enjoyed her ability to relate mythology to the historical events that took place at Delphi. We also liked the museum!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The ruins of Delphi are spread over a large area—plan at least half a day to take in the highlights.

  • Bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and comfortable shoes to walk around the ruins.

  • The Delphi Museum is wheelchair accessible, but due to steep and uneven ground, it is not possible to visit the ruins up close via wheelchair.

When to Get There

The busiest time to visit Delphi is summer, so arrive early if you want to skip the queues and avoid the midday heat. For cooler weather and fewer crowds, visiting in spring is a popular alternative, while winter visitors can make the most of the nearby ski resorts.

Ancient Delphi in Greek Mythology

In ancient Greece, Delphi was considered the center of the world, or the place where heaven and earth met. Legend says that Zeus released two eagles from opposite ends of the earth to find its center, and they met over Delphi. The city become a sanctuary to the god Apollo and home of the famous Oracle of Delphi, a trusted oracle from which the spirit of Apollo gave advice on everything from domestic matters to war.
