The Basics

Visitors can prebook an admission ticket to the Pont du Gard site. Tickets gives access to the first level of the bridge; a museum; the family-oriented Ludo Children’s Center; the open-air Mémoires de Garrigue trail, which covers local agricultural history; and a cinema that screens a short film on the Pont du Gard. Upgrade with the Pass Aqueduct to join a guided tour of the top level of the bridge too.

Many travelers come to the bridge during guided day tours from Avignon, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, and even Paris. Day tours typically combine a visit to the Pont du Gard with stops at Avignon, Uzès, or Nîmes, or at picturesque Provence villages such as Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, Gordes, and Roussillon. Some day tours to Pont du Gard include wine-tasting sessions in Côtes du Rhône or Provence.

Awesome experience!
Pont du Gard was amazing. Ann was a fantastic guide. She was punctual on the pick up, spoke excellent English, knew her history of the sites and was a great driver on the twisty hilly roads.

Half-Day Provence Pont du Gard and Wine Tasting Tour from Avignon
Anne was wonderful. She was funny, and filled the silence with great information. To visit Avignon and not take a tour with her or a colleague would be a disservice to yourself! The sites were great, but the wine tasting was fabulous! I would have liked a bit more wine, but who wouldn’t! Thanks, Anne!

Half Day Pont-du-Gard, Uzès, Nîmes Tour from Avignon
The guide, “Terry,” was knowledgeable and friendly and rearranged the tour to make the most of the unusually rainy weather. Also, he went out of his way to help us catch a bus after the tour.

Nimes, Uzes & Pont du Gard Small Group Half-Day Tour from Avignon
This tour was very good for seeing a little of Nimes, Uzes and the Pont du Gard and was the only way we could have done it in the time.. We would have liked more time to explore Nimes ideally. The minivan was very clean and comfortable and the guide extremely knowledgeable - it was like a university education in the area's history! Guillaime was very personable and happy to answer all sorts of questions. We enjoyed the morning and would recommend the tour.

Nimes, Uzes & Pont du Gard Small Group Half-Day Tour from Avignon
Our driver /guide was a great source of information. We expected to see the Roman sites but she also pointed out many other places of interest en route. The car we travelled in was clean and comfortable. There were only 3 of us on the trip and we never felt rushed. We did have to pay an extra 5 euros to get into Pont du Gard. I would recommend the firm and the tour.

Saint Remy, Les Baux and Pont du Gard Small Group Day Trip
We had a great time. Melanie's driving was excellent. Her knowledge of the region was very good. She was friendly and funny. The countryside was very pretty. We only wish we could have had a longer time maybe 10 minutes extra in the Pont du Gard and in Les Baux. Those sites are very touristy and since the streets in Les Baux are so narrow, it took time to get to the castle. By the time we made it there, we felt that we would not have had enough time to visit it. So we turned back.

Saint Remy, Les Baux and Pont du Gard Small Group Day Trip
Just excellent way to visit the overall area in the beginning of our vacation. Jeremy was excellent. We all enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot. We then went back to key areas where we wanted to spend more time. Many thanks to Jeremy. Nelson Burns

Nimes, Uzes & Pont du Gard Small Group Half-Day Tour from Avignon
My wife and I selected this tour because it covered Pont Du Garde. We weren't sure the weather would cooperate but it did. It was just the 2 of us with our wonderful guide. She knew everything and we had a wonderful time talking. The section to Uzes was unexpectedly great since that was the spring that the Pont du garde was built to use. Great pictures. So this trip showed the start of the water for the Pont Du Garde and the Pont Du Garde as well as the spring in Nimes that was also used by the Romans. Stunning terrain and awesome guide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Small-Group Day Trip to Arles, the Alpilles and Pont du Gard from Avignon
We took an all day tour of Historical Provence w a lovely guide, Veronica. She was extremely knowledgeable about the sites, local culture, wine and food. Plus, she had a charming demeanor and was able to speak in English and Russian to accommodate the two couples on the tour. We only wished that she could have accompanied us to each of the sites with her expert commentaries.

Nimes, Uzes & Pont du Gard Small Group Half-Day Tour from Avignon
Our tour guide Gordana was lovely and full of knowledge. We had a wonderful day learning about Provence and Gard history. The car was comfortable. Gordana went out of her way to accomodate our needs and make our trip as enjoyable as possible. This is a wonderful half-day trip from Avignon with adequate time to see the sites and towns. We would highly recommend this day trip. Good value for money as well!

When to Get There

June, July, and August are usually the driest months, making them a good time to visit the site, much of which is in the open air. On select evenings in June, the bridge is the setting for the Les Féeries du Pont sound and light show. The summer months are also peak visitor season. Tourist numbers begin to wane in September.

Best Views of the Pont du Gard

While you will have excellent views of the river from the bridge, the best views of the Pont du Gard itself are from the banks and the hillsides surrounding the river. Follow the 2.1-mile (3.5-kilometer) Aqueduct Trail for some of the best lookouts and photo opportunities.
