The Basics

Day trips to Mont Saint-Michel from Paris are popular ways to explore this medieval island in a limited time and without the hassle of arranging your own transportation. Plus, many tours include access to the Benedictine Abbey (Abbaye du Mont Saint-Michel) as standard. Mont Saint-Michel is also easy to reach from Caen and Bayeux, both of which offer access to wider Normandy and places such as the D-Day landing beaches of World War II and the coastal village of Honfleur.

Mont Saint Michel Full Day Experience from Paris by Private Coach
Mont-Saint-Michel is very nice to see and walk around. The windy beach was also fun to spend time on it with the brisk wind blowing all around. The meeting place is immediately in front of Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine, the guide will be standing there but the mini-bus may not have arrived yet. We had Sinis (not sure about the spelling) and he was excellent. Very pleasant and informative. If you have the time, I recommend taking the trip. It is worth it.

Mont Saint Michel Full Day Experience from Paris by Private Coach
What an amazing day trip! Mont Saint Michel is a must-visit! Add, our tour guide, was amazing! She made the four and a half bus ride a lot of fun! She gave us a very engaging summary of the history of France, Paris and Mont Saint Michel during the ride. On the way back, she took the time to share recommendations on where to eat and what to do in Paris. She really extended herself. Make sure you book with Adi. The tour was offered by a company called City Wonder. Highly recommended.

Mont Saint Michel Tour From Paris
Marc is an excellent tour guide and shared so much information about Mont St. Michel, St. Malo, and Dinan. He also pointed out many interesting features and explained a lot of history and facts about Brittany during the drives between the sites.

Mont Saint-Michel Day Trip from Bayeux
Adrien was a great guide! He filled us in so much valuable info that really made our trip special. He was so patient in answering all our questions - even the ones not related to our tour. But, the extra special part for us was our visit to an orchard to try the many apple cider products. He allowed us to take our time. Even to the point of extending our time together by 1 hour. My husband said he liked the cider experience as much as our tour to Mont St Michel. Adrien is the best!!

Private guided walking tour of Mont Saint-Michel
The app allowed us to take our time and understand the history. Lunch was sufficient and very good. Due to the crowds, we left early and did not stay for the dinner (based on the lunch sure the dinner was fabulous). Would take this self-guided tour again. Organizer did a fabulous job.

Mont Saint-Michel Audio Guided Day Trip with Abbey Entrance from Paris
All of the staff were nice people. The bus was also comfortable. The guide’s explanation was easy to understand.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The parking lot is located on the mainland; a shuttle runs from the lot to a drop-off point close to the entrance to Mont Saint-Michel.

  • The village is full of narrow walkways and steps, so wear comfortable shoes and prepare for crowds.

  • There are no stairs from the parking lot to the entrance, but 350 steps lead from the top of the main street to the abbey.

  • Wi-Fi is available at the tourist office in the village.

When to Get There

Mont Saint-Michel’s tourist office is open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, while the abbey is closed January 1, May 1, and December 25. As a small island, it’s a popular destination with limited space, so arrive early to avoid the crowds, which are biggest in summer.

After paying your entrance fee to the abbey, grab a visitor’s guide for a self-guided tour of the Gothic landmark’s cloister and rooms. Alternatively, guided 75-minute tours in French and English are available year-round; they are included in admission with no reservation required. To hear commentary without a live guide, purchase a 1-hour audio guide for a small fee.
