Excellent D-Day Sites Tour

Omaha Highlights Tour with a DDAY expert from Bayeux
This is a really good tour if you do not have a full day to dedicate to the D-Day sites. It focuses on the most important locations (Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, American Cemetery) and provides a well rounded WWII experience. Our guide, Marie, was fabulous - very knowledgeable about the relevant history and extremely passionate in her presentations. We were a group of 6 and this tour was a highlight of a week long trip to France.

Omaha Beach Half-Day Trip from Bayeux
Our guide was fantastic!! Would love to have him again! Very informative and had many personal stories to add! The van was clean and the ride was comfortable. The only downfall was the price, but is probably worth it to avoid large tour group and have personal touch! Would definitely recommend!

Omaha Highlights Tour with a DDAY expert from Bayeux
Lovely tour guide, Kate. She balanced an English speaking, and French speaking family well. We had time on our own, and time with Kate, who provided us great perspective, valuable information and interesting stories.

This was an excellent tour. The drive is long (3hrs) but worth it. We saw so many sights including Omaha Beach and the American cemetery. I’d highly recommend this day trip from Paris!

Omaha Beach Half-Day Trip from Bayeux
This was a wonderful and informative trip. Nothing like being in Normandy to give you a sense of the scale and scope of June 6, 1944.

Normandy D-Day Small-Group Day Trip with Omaha Beach, Cemetery & Cider Tasting
Enjoyable tour. Our guide, Ryan, was personable and attentive to our needs. He is still developing his subject matter knowledgeable but able to answer most questions. The weather was nice and the terrain was mostly flat. Worth the money overall.

Utah & Omaha Beaches D-Day Group Tour from Bayeux
Value for money if you just have one day to spare, and are ok with that. Great guide with lots of experience, knowledge and hidden gems. One day is just not enough ufortunately to thoroughly cover both US beaches, airborne museum+++So much to see and to reflect upon, but so little time.

Utah & Omaha Beaches D-Day Group Tour from Bayeux
Being there, where it all happened and hearing the stories from a guide who really knew his stuff was the best part. This experience helped me know really how much I don’t know about this part of history and how much more I would like to know about it!

How to Get There

Omaha Beach is located along the coast of Normandy in northern France, 15 miles (24 kilometers) northwest of Bayeux. Although buses run to the beach from Bayeux, the easiest way to visit is by private transportation or as part of a guided tour. The American Cemetery lies above the beach, from where a long walkway heads down to the beach itself.

When to Get There

Tours run to Omaha Beach year-round, but it can get busy during peak summer season. If you’re visiting in July and August, try to arrive early morning or early evening to avoid the large groups of day-trippers. The most moving time to visit is during the annual D-Day Festival, which commemorates the anniversary of the Allied Landings with a program of memorials, parades, and beachside picnics.

The D-Day Landings

Omaha Beach was the location of one of the most significant battles World War II. On June 6, 1944, American troops were given the task of securing Omaha Beach as part of a strategy to land Allied troops along five points on the coast of Normandy—an operation code-named D-Day. Due to unforeseen tidal forces and stronger than expected German defenses, the American soldiers suffered massive losses—2,400 casualties in a day of bloody fighting. However, the landing was eventually successful with 34,000 troops securing the area for the Allies, and thus beginning the end of the war.
