Wangfujing Street (Wangfujing Dajie)
Strolling along Wangfujing Street is a quintessential Beijing nightlife experience—popular with both Chinese and international tourists. Perhaps most interesting to foreign tourists are the hundred or so food stalls serving a range of bizarre street foods. Many night tours of Beijing include a visit to the street, along with the National Center for the Performing Arts, Olympic Green (with its illuminated stadiums), and the trendy Houhai Lake area. For the ultimate night out on the town, combine a guided visit to Wangfujing Street with tickets to the Golden Mask Dynasty Show.
Things to Know Before You Go
Wangfujing Street is a must-visit for shoppers, foodies, and Instagrammers.
Wear comfortable shoes, as the street extends for about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) in total.
Save your receipts from shopping on the street for a tax refund at the airport.
Bring some cash in small denominations, especially if you plan to eat at the market.
How to Get There
To get to Wangfujing Street, take subway line 1 to Wangfujing Station and leave through exit A. This will put you right on the commercial street. Local buses also stop nearby at Wangfujing or Wangfujing Lukou Bei.
When to Get There
While many of the shops along the street maintain regular business hours, Wangfujing Street truly comes alive after dark, when the outdoor food market is open for business.
What to Eat at Wangfujing
The food stalls of Wangfujing Snack Street sell hundreds of delicacies from around China, so you’ll never be short on choices. Adventurous eaters come for the sea stars, centipedes, scorpions, snake kabobs, and sheep innards, while those with a softer stomach might prefer candied fruit, Chinese dumplings, or grilled skewers of chicken or pork.
