The Basics

Reached by ferry from Brisbane, the Moreton Island National Park is a popular weekend retreat for visitors and city dwellers, and it’s easy to take in the highlights on a day trip. For the best experience, book a tour to soak up the scenery while spotting whales and dolphins on a cruise around Moreton Bay; swim or snorkel at Tangalooma beach; zip along the sand tracks and dunes on a quad bike; or get your adrenaline fix with activities like sand tobogganing, parasailing, paddleboarding, riding a glass-bottom boat, or kayaking.

Fun, great experience
I love all of the activities. Everything was well plan. The tour guide Josh and Nemo were excellent they are so fun and well explained each of the activity. Only thing I can suggest is for the snorkel activity, if the tour guide can take the picture of the group/individual while we are in the water it would make it more memorable as we can not take our phone to into the water. I would invest a gopro ( waterproof one) for future visit. I would recommend to anyone to do the tour.

2-Day Moreton Island Tour from Brisbane or Gold Coast with Optional Nighttime Kayaking
Great time 4WD trucking around Moreton Island with our tour guide Rhett! He was very knowledgeable and friendly, even played guitar for us around the campfire. Snorkelling the wrecks was amazing, and unfortunately it rained a bit but we still had a lot of fun

I had a great time on the island. Snorkelling was my favourite. It was my first time snorkelling, and I was nervous, but the guides were friendly and helpful; they made sure I am safe and enjoy the experience.

A Must Do Adventure

2-Day Moreton Island Tour from Brisbane or Gold Coast with Optional Nighttime Kayaking
This package is the highlight of our holiday in Brisbane. The night kayaking is a MUST if you want to see the corals at night - with a totally different biodiversity as compared to daytime. The see through kayaks allows a clear view to the corals and the fishes at night. The 4WD bus was a thrill ride Alan led the sightseeing tour - excellent commentary and explanation of the biodiversity and landscape of the island. Sumptuous safari styled lunch Bones & Isiah took over after that and we were served dinner (first class!) and after that - the unforgettable night time kayak. Lucky for us - we were in a small group - and we get full the attention of our guide, Isiah - where he pointed out the different creatures that come out at night among the corals. Kudos to Alan, Bones, Isiah, Nat and the rest of the gang! The trip is definitely much more enjoyable when we were led by guides that truly enjoy what they are doing.

Moreton Island Snorkel and Sandboarding 4WD Day Trip from Brisbane
My sister and I had a blast on this tour! The sand boarding was so much fun and we truly enjoyed snorkeling over the shipwrecks. Our guide was really nice and told us a lot about the island. He even dropped us off at our hotel afterward, instead of the drop off point. If you're looking for a tour to Moreton Island, this is the one you should choose! :D

It was a beautiful experience. Sunsets safaris took care of everything. I would highly recommend this tour.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Temperatures can reach upwards of 86°F (30°C) in summer, so pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as well as a swimsuit and towel.

  • Bring picnic supplies and bottled water with you from the mainland, as there is only one shop on Moreton Island.

  • Moreton Island is a sand island, so trails and beaches are only accessible by 4WD. A vehicle permit is also required.

  • The Tangalooma Island Resort is wheelchair accessible and offers beach wheelchairs, but not all island activities are fully accessible to those with limited mobility.

When to Get There

Water temperatures rarely drop below 70°F (21°C), making it comfortable to swim year-round at Moreton Island. The summer months (November to February) are warmest and busiest. Visiting out of season can mean cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and better deals on tours and accommodations, while wildlife enthusiasts may want to visit during the whale-watching season (June to October).

Off-Road on Moreton Island

Snorkeling the Tangalooma Wrecks and feeding wild dolphins are popular activities, but there are island adventures to be had off the beaten track. Climb the Mount Tempest sand dune for an unforgettable coastal view; visit the historic Cape Moreton Lighthouse; take a dip in the Blue Lagoon or the Champagne Pools; or hike among World War II ruins along the Rous Battery track.
