Bunda St, Cairns, Queensland, 4870

The Basics

Most tours set out from Cairns, Port Douglas, or the northern beaches, from where it’s a two-hour one-way journey to the end of the line at Kuranda. Passengers can choose standard heritage carriages or the more luxurious Gold Class or Royale Class service, in which refreshments are served. For the best value, combine your tour with other North Queensland activities such as a ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, an Army Duck tour of the Rainforestation Nature Park, a helicopter ride over the Great Barrier Reef, or a visit to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.

Kuranda Scenic Railway Day Trip from Cairns
Great trip up via Train & back via Skyrail, the views are awesome. Travellers are well spaced by the Train Staff, because of COVID. There is a nice Pub available for lunch on arrival & if you like a Ginger Beer with a bit of an alcohol kick (4%) try the Pubs very own Green Ginger Beer

Skyrail was amazing.. I would have chosen a gold pass for the railway as the time was nearly 2 hours and the seat looked more comfortable for the gold pass passengers.

Kuranda Scenic Railway Day Trip from Cairns
The Kuranda Scenic Railway was a fantastic experience. The history of the railway - using picks to fig tunnels was mind boggling. The views were amazing. The staff on board were helpful and friendly. The carriages were well maintained. The railway staff were helpful.

Enjoyable trip with the highlight being the train ride from Kuranda to Freshwater. I recommend the gold-class option which makes the journey quite relaxing as one is served drinks and canopies. Although the skyrail seemed a long journey it is broken up with a couple scenic stops en route. Not much to Kuranda apart from the opportunity to stretch the lags and pop into the local tavern. Quite a long day if you are staying in Port Douglas.

Kuranda Scenic Railway Day Trip from Cairns
The day started out with a mishap as we were overlooked at our pickup point, but got a taxi there and worked it all out in the end. It was a pleasant day and we all enjoyed the experience. Bus driver that missed us on pick up at least had a giggle on the return trip with us.
