Frangokastello Beach Tours and Activities

Frangokastello Beach
With its long sandy beaches and shallow waters, Frangokastello beach is among the island’s most popular, and the sleepy seaside resort has retained its tranquil, laid-back vibe despite the influx of tourists. Frangokastello has everything you would expect from a Crete beach resort—swaths of white sand surrounded by towering dunes, rocky coves ideal for snorkeling and fishing, and crashing waves that offer ample opportunities for water sports.

The star attraction of Frangokastello though, is its eponymous fortress, a striking Venetian castle that dates back to 1371 and looks out over the beach from its cliff-top perch. Visitors can walk up to the castle from the beach and explore the ruins, but be warned – legend has it that the castle is haunted by the ghosts of independence fighter Hadzi Michali Daliani and his soldiers, who were killed in the castle in 1828.

Practical Info

Frangokastello beach is located on Crete’s southern coast, 12 km from Chora Sfakion.

Hike Imbros Gorge and visit a Winery or Frangokastello Beach Private Tour

Hike Imbros Gorge and visit a Winery or Frangokastello Beach Private Tour

If you are looking for a light hike combining a beach, this is the perfect tour for you! Imbros gorge is located on the eastern Lefka Ori mountains. For an average hiker it will take less than 3 hours to cross. After pick up from Chania area we head down to Imbros village where the gorge starts. We will drop you off at the entrance and pick you up at the end. Most of the gorge is in the shade with a narrow trail (no cliffs) and pine trees. There is a small stream which is dry in the summer so it's good to have a sufficient supply of water. Imbros Gorge is a small version of Samaria Gorge. Imbros is breathtaking, ideal for nature lovers and wildlife watchers. After Imbros we will visit Frangocastello where we will spend some time on the beach and admire its Ottoman Castle. Alternatively, instead of the beach we could visit a winery. We would recommend to visit both at a small extra cost. You could eat in both locations as well.
