The Basics

This atmospheric village, snug inside the Sacred Valley of the Incas, was once a lofty citadel protecting the Inca Empire from invaders. These days, the only invaders are shoppers looking for beautiful handicrafts and housewares from talented local artisans.

Visit independently or explore the Pisac Indian Market as part of a private or group half-day, full-day or multi-day tour that incorporates other attractions inside the Sacred Valley of the Incas, including the archeological sites on the way to Machu Picchu.

A great trip
Me and my partner had lots of fun on this trip. We had great food, great views, and a great guide. He was super helpful and even gave us some great recommendations on what to do on our last two days in the area. This was one of the best experiences I've had.

Excelente experience, they were on time to pick me up on my Airbnb, that was fantastic! Transportation was amazingly clean with all the safety measures for a sanitized area, they provided hand sanitizer at all times. My tour guy, Abdon Alejo was very knowledgeable and learned a lot from all the areas we visited, he was friendly and respectful at all times. As traveling by my self that was very important to me. The restaurant we visited at lunch time was amazing with a great service. I will recomend this experience 100%

I really enjoyed the length and price of this tour. Riding around the Sacred Valley was absolutely beautiful and our guide had interesting facts to give us throughout the day. The market that was visited was probably the best I visited in Peru and lunch was delicious. Would 10/10 recommend.

The tour itself was very well rounded, went to all the great spots..had a good amount of time to ourselves and the stops that we went to for markets to sell us stuff we learned a great deal about the culture so I didn’t feel like they were just trying to get us to buy things.Ernesto is phenomenal!!!! He was so knowledgeable, welcomed Any questions and you could tell he was so passionate about his work! He really made the trip enjoyable! The lunch buffet! Location beautiful and food was so good! Lastly the driver was so good at driving a big bus up and down curvy mountain roads!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Bargaining for prices is expected; however, take into account the skill and time that goes into making the wares.

  • Wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be walking on uneven stone pathways.

  • Because of the high altitude, be sure to stay hydrated and take it slow—chewing on coca leaves or drinking coca tea helps alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness.

  • Many tours include ground transportation, transfers, entrance fees, camping and hotel accommodations, and guides.

  • Tours operate in all weather conditions, so remember to dress appropriately—sweaters and rain ponchos are always a good idea.

When to Get There

The Pisac Indian Market is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, but nothing compares to Sundays when the market expands exponentially. Arrive in the morning so you can catch a mass (conducted in both Quechua and Spanish) attended by artisans in vibrant garb. The market is open from the mid-morning until the late-afternoon on Sundays.

Visit the Ollantaytambo Ruins

Combine a market visit with a tour of the nearby Ollantaytambo ruins, the Inca Temple of the Sun, and a fortress made of gigantic stones, mysteriously placed to perfection. It's about an hour's hike from Pisac to the ruins, which are perched dramatically on a magnificent mountain top.
