The Basics

Peggy’s Cove is one of the best places to get a taste of small-town life in the Maritimes. The town’s star attractions include the 100-foot (30-meter) sculpture depicting the people of Peggy’s Cove, which was carved directly into an outcropping by Finnish-born artist, William E. deGarthe, and the oft-photographed Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, a tower perched atop a smooth boulder outcrop. Tours typically depart from Halifax and combine free time at Peggy’s Cove with stops at other popular Nova Scotia sights, including SSAtlantic Heritage Park, the Swissair Flight 111 Memorial, and the Fairview Lawn Cemetery—well known for the 121Titanic victims buried there. Some tours include a seaside meal, with the option to try Nova Scotia’s famous lobster rolls.

Worthwhile experience learning about Halifax. Very knowledgeable tour guide, even though he was still fairly new on the job. Excellent driver as well. Recommended!

Best of Halifax Tour with Peggy's Cove
Jack our tour driver was excellent and very personable. He provided some extremely anecdotes with respect to Peggys Cove, the Halifax explosion, Pier 21 and numerous others. The downtown portion was detailed and informative. Definitely would recommend tour and the driver.

Best of Halifax Tour with Peggy's Cove
A must for anyone visiting Halifax for the first time. We were lucky enough to have two tour guides that day. One was training and was also very knowledgeable. Along with Peggy’s Cove we got to see a lot of the coast, the burial ground where some of the victims of the titanic are buried and, of course, the Halifax Citadel. I thoroughly enjoyed our tour and our tour guides and would highly recommend this tour!

Nova Scotia Day Tour - Visit Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, and the Annapolis Valley.
This was such an exciting and unorthodox tour. Loved every minute of it. Big highlights- time to roM Lunenburg, the random stop at a winery for tasting, stopping at a random spring and just the trivia around Peggy's Cove. It's an innovative offer, local and woman owned. Travel with your values 😊

We had a fabulous day with Sam. Saw all of our wish list spots…peggy’s cove, Mohane bay, lunenburg, stop at a winery in Annapolis valley and watched the tide go out at the Bay of Fundy! Sam was knowledgeable, friendly and punctual. It was great and we’d definitely recommend her to anyone!

Great fun, despite the title and a really delicious lunch. Great to be in such a small group, just my friend and me and another lady.

The tour was good but really felt like it was too many people squeezed into a too small van. Was really not comfortable with that at all!

Nova Scotia Day Tour - Visit Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, and the Annapolis Valley.
This was such a fun day! Prompt pick up at requested hotel. Sam was super friendly, cheerful and informative. Each stop was timed wonderfully, enough time to see highlights of each stop, and some bonus sights/stops along the way for pictures and stories. It was a memorable experience and so grateful to have met Sam and experience an alternative route!

Excellent host, very obliging , and knowledgeable! Toured Peggy’s cove(very picturesque and not crowded), lunnenburg( Bluenose ll was present),and Annapolis valley(sampled gorgeous flavored wines and the view was incredible) . Great stories told, and made a few stops to quaint points of interests along the way. Schedule was kept at a perfect pace, so we could see more and relax at each destination. Thank you again Sam😊

Things to Know Before You Go

  • When viewing Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, stand at a safe distance from the edge of the outcrop, as the surging waves can be dangerous.

When to Get There

Peggy’s Point Lighthouse is an extremely popular photo stop, particularly in summer. Get there early in the morning (before 10am) or later in the afternoon (after 5pm) to experience the town at its tranquil best. In winter, the cove is quiet and devoid of crowds, but also cold and icy.

Peggy’s Cove’s Picturesque Lighthouse

More than 160 historic lighthouses dot the Nova Scotia coastline, though none is more famous than the red-and-white beacon known as Peggy’s Point, said to be the most photographed lighthouse in Canada. First built in 1915 to guide vessels along Canada’s Atlantic coast, the lighthouse used to house a post office where, up until 2009, visitors could mail postcards to friends and family at home.
