The Basics

The immense size, little signage, and complex history of the Palace of Knossos means it’s worth visiting with a local guide. The best way to explore is on a guided walking tour, taking in highlights of the Minoan palace such as the Central Court, the Throne Room, the Tripartite Shrine, the Grand Staircase, and the Queen’s Hall. You can also combine your visit to the Palace of Knossos with the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.

Skip the Line: Knossos Palace and Heraklion Archaeological Museum
We didn’t really need these skip the lone tickets in October as there were no crowds. We enjoyed touring the site and felt we didn’t need a guide because we brought a guidebook with us.

Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Ticket (Shared Tour - Small group)
Very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. She brought history to life. Some difficulty in accessing our tickets. The instructions were not clear. Could they not have been emailed directly to us when booking?

Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Ticket (Shared Tour - Small group)
If we hadn't booked this tour, there was no way we would have fully experienced or understood the value of this palace. Our guide was incredibility knowledgeable and shared the "real" history of the palace. This was overall a fantastic learning experience and we walked away with new perspective - such as really thinking about the meaning of language - such as the word "centaur."

Combined Guided Tour to Lasithi Plateau & Knossos Palace
It’s a very intense trip, it could be narrowed only to Lasithi Plateu, Dikteon Cave, Knossos and lunch break. However, still recommend it

Combined Guided Tour to Lasithi Plateau & Knossos Palace
The tour was a very good combination of sightseeing, little bit hiking, history and culture. The tour guides explained everything in 3 languages. The bus is cool and comfortable. Be prepared for a really long day, especially if you are picked up early, the complete tour took us 12 hours. It was informative, the guides explained much more about each site compared what is written onto standard tourist signs. Well organized.

Mythical Escape: Cave of Zeus & Knossos Palace with Lassithi Plateau
They were incredible! 11/10. Marilena was one of the best guides we have ever had. Dimitrios was a fantastic driver and very helpful. I really can’t stress how perfect they were. It was a great day and they both went out of their way to ensure we had a through and authentic experience.

Perfect day trip to Knossos, Archaeology Museum, plus Lake Kournas

Knossos-Archaeological Museum-Heraklion City - Full Day Tour from Chania
Well worth it! We ended up on a ‘private tour’ due to C19 cancellations. Christine and Thanasis were welcoming, relaxed, informative and flexible. The mini bus was well equipped, modern and comfortable, including wifi and Covid necessities. The ‘snack’ was very filling and there were plentiful drinks including alcohol. Christine and Thanasis were lovely! What more can I say? Highly recommended. Made an unscheduled stop at Lake Kournas, because we wanted to see it.

Things to Know Before You Go

Greek Mythology at Knossos Palace

Historic facts and Greek mythology intertwine at Knossos. While King Minos was believed to have been a real figure, the notorious Minotaur—the half-man, half-bull imprisoned in the palace’s labyrinth—and his creators, Daedalus and Icarus, are characters of Greek legend.
