The Basics

The immense size, little signage, and complex history of the Palace of Knossos means it’s worth visiting with a local guide. The best way to explore is on a guided walking tour, taking in highlights of the Minoan palace such as the Central Court, the Throne Room, the Tripartite Shrine, the Grand Staircase, and the Queen’s Hall. You can also combine your visit to the Palace of Knossos with the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.

Easy Knossos tour
The tickets and guide audio are texted and emailed immediately upon booking. Very user friendly. You can go at any time and skip the line into Knossos. Highly recommend this. We stayed about an hour although the audio is longer. It’s a great option if you want to see the ruins but not spend a full half day with a live guide. We enjoyed this trip a lot

Knossos Palace - Guided Tour
Our guide was very knowledgeable and also, accomodating. She told the history and the myths and how they complimented each other. We throughly enjoyed our visit to Knossos. We also did the self guided tour of the Archeological Museum and were able to see many of the artifacts referenced on our tour. Having a guide made the experience so much better.

Full-Day Knossos and Heraklion Tour from Chania and Rethymno
Visit to the Knosos and to the museum in town. A must. Long bus ride but worth it. You saw the landscape. Very good. Not so good. They mixed the group and half of them did not understand English. Very good guide.

Greek Mythology at Knossos Palace

Historic facts and Greek mythology intertwine at Knossos. While King Minos was believed to have been a real figure, the notorious Minotaur—the half-man, half-bull imprisoned in the palace’s labyrinth—and his creators, Daedalus and Icarus, are characters of Greek legend.
