The Basics

You can view Emerald Bay from overlooks and hiking trails on land, by air on a helicopter tour, or by water on a Lake Tahoe cruise. All offer different perspectives to take in breathtaking views of the picturesque spot. Sunset is a particularly beautiful time to visit, so book sunset dinner cruises and sunset helicopter tours in advance. Other not-to-be-missed sights include Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion that is one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States, and Eagle Falls, a beautiful waterfall accessible by short hike.

Private Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe Tour with Captain (2 hours)
My husband had admired the wooden boats from afar for years. He had a milestone birthday coming up, and we booked this your with two other couples. It was a beautiful evening and we have wonderful memories with Captain Ed. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Lake Tahoe.

Emerald Bay Sunset Boat tour in the Grateful Red
The boat ride is the best memory we had in Lake Tahoe till date. Bryan was prompt and was in touch with us via text messages. He kept everything simple and easy. The boat captain, Tim was just amazing. He kept all of us entertained through-out the boat ride. My kid loved him and wants to go back on the boat again. Everyone in the family strongly recommend this memorable boat ride.

First time for my husband and I. We were kind of nervous but all of the staff was very nice and professional. We did only the 15 minute tour since it was our first time but we will definitely do the 1 hour next time. Great experience.

Private Boat Charter Emerald Bay
David was a great captain and we got to experience the lake up close and learn interesting facts about the different coves, mountain peaks and overall history of Lake Tahoe. We would definitely recommend this if you want to experience being on the lake with just your close friends or family and not a large group.

Emerald Bay Helicopter Tour of Lake Tahoe
Me and my fiancé had a great time, my fiancés dad recently passed and I brought him here for a ride. A bit emotional and I was happy to see him smiling during the ride and talking to the amazing pilot we had, and having him a bit closer to his dad. Rest In Peace -Pedro Inzunza Sanchez Thanks for the experience it might not be a big deal for you guys, but it’s things like this that help us get through it

When to Get There

Emerald Bay is stunning in all seasons. Summer is the best time to visit, as temperatures are fairly mild. In winter, however, temperatures often remain below freezing and access to hiking trails is limited. You can pick up trail maps from the Lake Tahoe Visitor Center in summer or from the park’s headquarters in South Lake Tahoe year-round.

Popular Lake Tahoe Activities Nearby

Many visitors come to beautiful Lake Tahoe for the scenery alone, but there’s plenty of outdoor adventure to be had as well. In the summer, hiking, biking, and water sports are widely available, while the winter opens world-class ski runs at the many nearby resorts. Photographers will appreciate the landscape photo opportunities, including the surrounding, often-snow-capped Sierra mountain range.
