The Basics

While not as popular as the South Rim, the North Rim offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure. Visitors based in Las Vegas can get a bird’s-eye view of the North Rim aboard a helicopter or airplane flightseeing tour, with the option to add an ATV ride or Jeep tour for close-up views from the ground. Since the Hoover Dam is along the route from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon North Rim, many visitors and tours stop there first.

Flawless from flight to ATV ride to lunch. We had a such a wonderful, private viewing of the Grand Canyon. Adam and team were great hosts! So much so we want to come back and camp with them next year.

Very fun but dusty adventure

Grand Canyon North Rim Air and Ground Tour with Optional ATV Ride
The visit and ATV ride were a very fun but dusty adventure to a very scenic spot, with views of the canyon and river that you’ll remember forever. I’m very glad I went. Highly recommended, with the warning that the road is very rough and the ATVs require a firm grip. But don’t let that scare you—if you don’t want to drive one, you can ride with the guide. Just be sure and wear old clothes, folks, and be prepared to be very dusty after. They’ll use air hoses to blow the worst if it off after, and showers are available at the Bar 10 Ranch you start from as well. But this is one trip where getting dirty is part of the fun!

Highlight of Graduation Trip to Vegas

Grand Canyon North Rim Air and Ground Tour with Optional ATV Ride
This tour was the highlight of our sons’ graduation trip to Vegas! The transfers from the hotel were easy. The airport was very modern and check-in was a breeze. The airplane tour was smooth and the views were breath-taking. The cabin was comfortably air-conditioned and headsets were provided that played soothing music and interesting commentary on landmarks as we passed over them. The ATV trip was a bit fast and bumpy even for us as experienced ATV owners but still enjoyable. I recommend the side-by-side Polaris for a more comfortable trip. Our guide, Morgan, was adorable, fun and educational. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was even more special to share with our sons as they move on to the next big stages of their lives.

We really enjoyed seeing a beautiful part of the Grand Canyon that is not readily accessible. The Bar 10 ranch staff and the flight crews were fantastic.

Grand Canyon North Rim Air and Ground Tour with Optional ATV Ride
I am so happy my husband and I got to experience the Grand Canyon. When I booked this tour, I didn't know what to expect. The entire experience was breathtaking, educating, exhilarating and we had so much fun. From the transportation provider, to the check in process, to the Pilot, to the tour guide and the food everything was excellent. I would highly recommend this tour.

Beautiful and Adventurous

Grand Canyon North Rim Air and Ground Tour with Optional ATV Ride
It was a great trip. The ATVs were a bit rougher than anticipated. The trail is very rocky. I recommend wearing a covering for your face as it can get pretty dusty on the ride. I switched to the Cadillac (The UTV) on the way back with the kids in the back, Surprisingly fun when I thought it would be boring. My daughter had to switch back because of thumb problems with the throttle on the ATV. There is a place to wash up some after the trip before eating. It was definitely a highlight of our trip.

When to Get There

The best times to visit the Grand Canyon are in early autumn and late spring, when temperatures are cool and the crowds are sparser than in summer. Visitor facilities at the North Rim are open from mid-May to mid-October, and it’s possible to visit the area until the first snowfall closes the road from Jacob Lake until it melts again in spring.

North Rim Day Hiking

The Grand Canyon North Rim offers some spectacular trails for day hikers, including rim hikes with stellar views of the inner canyon or even hikes down into the canyon itself. The Bright Angel Point Trail can be hiked in as little as 30 minutes along a paved path, with excellent views the entire way. The three-mile (4.8-kilometer) round-trip Transept Trail follows the rim from Grand Canyon Lodge to the North Rim Campground, while the more challenging North Kaibab Trail to Roaring Springs inside the canyon takes a full day to complete.
