Praia da Lua
The Basics
While Praia da Lua lacks the frills of Ponta Negra, it does have just about everything you’d need for a day at the beach, including wooden picnic tables and several beach shacks selling beer and fish along the waterfront. Many visitors choose to combine some time at the beach with a visit to the nearby Vila Paraíso Seringal Museum for a look at the history of the rubber boom in Manaus.
Things to Know Before You Go
- Praia da Lua is one of the best beaches in Manaus and a good bet for families.
- Don’t forget to bring a beach towel, sun protection, and a change of clothes.
- Bring along some local currency if you plan to eat or drink at one of the beach shacks.
How to Get There
To reach Praia da Lua, you will need to catch a boat from Marina do Davi just past Ponta Negra. You can get to the marina by bus, and then the boat trip to Praia da Lua is about 10 minutes one-way.
When to Get There
The river beaches of Manaus, including Praia da Lua, are at their biggest and best when the water level is low—typically August through December. Come in the morning when the sand isn’t so hot and there’s less chance of rain.
Best Beaches in Manaus
Praia da Lua isn’t the only beach area in Manaus. Ponta Negra Beach is one of the most popular stretches of sand in the area, with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, while Tupe Beach, accessible only by boat, offers a quieter atmosphere with calm waters perfect for swimming.
