Ngilgi Cave

76 Yallingup Caves Rd, Yallingup, WA 6282

The Basics

The only way to explore the cave is on a semi-guided tour, admiring sights such as the Fairy Cave, Cupid’s Corner, and the Tunnel of Doom. For a more comprehensive look, join an adventure tour and explore deeper into the caves with a hard hat and flashlight.

Day tours of the Margaret River region from Perth often include a visit to Ngilgi Cave alongside regional attractions such as Geographe Bay, Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, or wine tasting at the Margaret River wineries. Combination tickets are available for Ngilgi Cave, Mammoth Cave, Jewel Cave, and Lake Cave.

The Legend of Ngilgi

Ngilgi Cave was originally called Yallingup Cave, but it was renamed in honor of its traditional owners, the Wardandi people. According to an Aboriginal dreamtime legend, Ngilgi was a good spirit who fought with Wolgine, an evil spirit, to gain control of the cave and protect the local people.
