The Basics

Beloved by locals and visitors alike, Coyoacán’s historic center (aka Villa Coyoacán) is easy to explore on foot in as little as half a day. Stroll the cobblestone streets before relaxing in one of the many pretty plazas; take a walking tour to learn about the pre-Hispanic and colonial history of the district; or uncover Frida Kahlo’s artistic legacy.

Alternatively, combine a visit to Coyoacán with stops in Xochimilco, University City, or Teotihuacán. And don’t miss the trio of popular house-museums, once occupied by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Leon Trotsky, respectively.

Manuel was a great tour...
Manuel was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable. The stop to the National University of Mexico was a plus, becuase I did want to see the Puma stadium, even though we didn’t go inside, it was still a plus. I would if loved to spend a bit more exploring Coyoacan, but the time we did have, I was i was able to explore the main part of the area where there were restaurants and shops. It was a great tour.

Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo Museum Tour
Kevin was a terrific guide--he was knowledgeable, friendly, and he moved quickly and easily between English and Spanish without waiting for long periods to let each group know what was going on. The bus was comfortable and the pacing was good (mixing history and moving around with a lovely boat ride, drinks, and good food, then wonderful art and also good snacks). A great tour.

Mexico City: (Almost) Free Walking Tours - Center/Chapultepec/Coyoacan/Roma
We did two walking tours with this company while in Mexico City, and both were fabulous. One was of the Archaeology & Anthropology Museum and the other a walking tour of Coyoacan. Both guides were super friendly and knowledgable. We would love to do more tours again with this group in the future.

The bike trip to Coyocan was terrific. The guides made it the best - they were both warm and wonderful, knowledgeable and informative and lots of fun. Most importantly they took good care of us and made us feel very safe. If we had time, we would have signed up for more tours with them.

Excellent Combo tour! It covered a lot of historical and interesting places. Our English guides (Emmanuel and Edita) were both professionals and knowledgeable and respectful too! Our group are all seniors (very slow!) but they were very patient and caring in a way. Thank you for the wonderful experience we had in Mexico guys!

Mexico City: Private Tour to Xochimilco, Coyoacan & Frida Kahlo Museum
Pick Up was at 8 for a full day. We had to be back by 4pm for a reservation and Ivan our guide made sure we were back by then. This is a very heavy historical informative tour. We enjoyed the cool facts about the city and the history. Boat tour was early before the crowds which was great for us. If you want to enjoy that at its peak come after 1pm. Frida museum was great, spent about 1 hour there. The University tour was too long. The tour of the town Coyaacan was nice. Overall was a good tour.

Xochimilco and Coyoacán: The most traditional of the city!
We had a fantastic day with Montse! She's passionate about what she does, and she did a great job bringing the history to life. This tour is a great value for what you get. Highly recommend.

Explore Frida Kahlo’s Coyoacán

Perhaps Coyoacán’s most well-known former resident, Frida Kahlo was born and raised in the district, and died there too. Wander around La Casa Azul and the Frida Kahlo Museum—the artist’s former home—before lunching on tostadas at Coyoacán Market. Finally, snap a photo with Frida at the Casa de Cultura Jesús Reyes Heroles. For more insight into Frida’s life and work, opt for a Frida-themed tour of the area.
