The Basics

Home to a collection of artwork dating from 1952 onwards—with a special focus on work produced post-1968—the Teodoro González de León–designed MUAC is intriguing both inside and out. A popular stop for art and architecture fans exploring the city independently, you can also explore the MUAC on guided tours of the Ciudad Universitaria campus, which often include stops in Xochimilco, Coyoacán, and more. Alternatively, pass by on a hop-on hop-off bus tour.

Other Mexico City Art Museums

Mexico City is an art lover’s dream destination, with almost as many museums as Paris. After admiring contemporary works at the MUAC, return to the central neighborhood of Roma to tour smaller, cutting-edge galleries. Then, head to Chapultepec Park, home to the Tamayo Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. The Frida Kahlo Museum in Coyoacán is another must, as is the Soumaya in Polanco.
