Marquis Theatre Tours

Marquis Theatre
Open since 1986, the Marquis Theatre is one of youngest theaters on Broadway. The 1,611-seat venue  on the third floor of the Marriott Marquis Hotel is one of the city’s larger theaters and was designed to provide maximum comfort and intimacy. Book a ticket to enjoy the venue's high ceilings, state-of-the-art acoustics, and wide aisles.

The Basics
You can walk by the Marquis Theatre as part of a guided tour of Manhattan’s Theater District. These tours may let visitors inside some of the venues and provide historical information about each. Of course, the best way to experience the Marquis Theatre is to see a show. The Marquis has hosted productions including Annie Get Your Gun, La Cage aux Folles, and Tootsie. Booking your ticket in advance for your preferred seating.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Marquis Theatre is a must-visit for lovers of the theatrical arts.
  • The theater has accessible seating for visitors with disabilities.
  • There are two bars in the theater, one on the orchestra level and one on the mezzanine.
  • The theater does not have a dress code.

How to Get There
Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Theater District, the Marquis Theatre is easy to get to from anywhere in the city. Subway riders can take the A, C, or E to 50th Street, the N or R train to 49th Street, or the 7 to 42nd Street - Times Square. All stations are between a 5- and 10-minute walk away.

When to Get There
Show times vary depending on what is playing, but typically there is an evening performance on Monday through Saturday and an additional matinee performance on Saturday and Sunday. It is recommended to arrive at least 15 minutes before curtain in order to find your seats and get settled. Latecomers are seated during suitable breaks.

History
The Marquis Theatre is highly unusual in that it is located within a hotel. The reason behind its location is that the construction of the hotel involved the demolition of five theaters, and the city only permitted the developer to construct the new property if there was a theater within it.
