The Basics

Most Rio Secreto tours leave from Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Tulum, and other Riviera Maya destinations. At the nature reserve, you can tour the underground river, visit the famous Crystal Caves, and learn about ancient Maya legends. Combo tours combine a visit to Rio Secreto with other activities, such as early-access visits to the Tulum ruins, mountain biking excursions, or ATV tours.

Rio Secreto Underground River Tour with Crystal Caves
This was one of coolest experiences I’ve ever had. It’s a must-do for anyone visiting the area, but especially those into the metaphysical. Alfredo, our guide, was amazing, very amiable, and obviously passionate about his job. You are truly missing out if you don’t book this trip.

Karina was an amazing tour guide. She was extremely knowledgeable with the history of both the Mayan People and the Cavern swim. This was by far the best tour! Thank you!

Rio Secreto and Tulum Tour from Riviera Maya
Amazing tour! Both Tulum and Rio Secreto are phenomenal. The group is small, and the tour is efficient. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I knocked off one star because (1) the lunch is at 4pm (!!), even though it's at the same place as Rio Secreto, so it could be before that activity that starts at 1pm, and (2) they advertise picking you up from your hotel but they made me go to a meeting point a 15 min walk away.

Was a great tour close to Playa Del Carmen. Stephanie was a great guide and went really smooth. Not a fan of the buffet lunch. So I would skip that part.

Rio Secreto Underground River Tour with Crystal Caves
The guide we had was Ari. He was very knowledgeable about the cave . My sons were scared in the water part and he helped them to relax and help us move through the cave safely. Everything was great on Ari part. The food was good as well. I paid for photo and I still haven’t received it . That’s the only downside.

Both our guide and our photographer were fantastic! So much fun — it lasted most of the day, but the time went so fast. I would do this again in a heartbeat.
