Lobkowicz Palace (Lobkowický Palác)

Jiřská 3, Prague, Czech Republic

The Basics

A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, Lobkowicz Palace, which stands next to the Royal Palace, houses the Lobkowicz family’s private art collection, the largest in the Czech Republic and one of the finest in the city. The highlights, which are displayed in 22 ornate apartments, include works by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, Cranach, Velázquez, Canaletto, and Rubens. The collection also includes one of Central Europe’s finest libraries of rare books and a musical archive that includes scores by Mozart, Beethoven, and Gluck. Suits of medieval armor compete for attention with remarkable 16th-century lutes and early 18th-century silver trumpets, as well as a superb cache of 17th-century porcelain and decorative arts.

Your options for visiting Lobkowicz Palace run the gamut from audio tours that provide an overview of the site’s history to private guided tours that offer the flexibility to customize the focus on whatever you’re most interested in seeing.

The concert was excellent and the surroundings accentuated the event. The performers were in normal clothes, so don't expect them to be in renaissance costume for the performance. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the castle and seeing all the musical artifacts the family had on display. Some of Beethoven's original works are simply priceless. Highly recommended.

The venue is beautiful and the three musicians extremely talented. The one hour programme, which showcased 12 well known classical pieces, was just the right length of time. Afterwards we had lunch in the Lobkowicz Palace cafe which was also a lovely treat. For those that enjoy live classical music, this is a great choice.

Very enjoyable! Great music, a lot of the best classic pieces that everyone knows, The museum was very interesting as I learned more about the Chech history. We also walked around as this is inside the Prague Castle area, you will surely want to visit the Castle also but you should know that it will take 2 days to visit this magnificent site. I recommend this to all,

We loved the music but the Museum is just so so. The concert is done differently then here. There is no MC, they just play the songs one after another. But the music was beautiful.

The musicians were well rehearsed and good. It was, to my mind, a tourist event for those that are not real culture 'buffs'.
