The Basics

The best way to explore Old Town Square is on foot—join the crowds wandering and sipping coffee in streetside cafés, admire the intricate architecture, or join a group walking tour of the city to benefit from the experience of an expert guide. Most Prague tours pass through the square on the way to nearby attractions such as Wenceslas Square, the Charles Bridge, or the Jewish Quarter. For a more personalized experience, opt for a small-group or private tour, or combine an Old Town walking tour with a visit to Prague Castle, a sightseeing cruise along the Vltava River, or a traditional Czech lunch.

Prague Old Town New Town and Jewish Quarter Morning Tour
Great tour with historical, cultural and fun facts. Mike was a great guide with a lot of humour and could answer all our questions about the city. We were so happy with the tour that we also booked the tour of the Prague Castle on the next day. We were in Prague only for a weekend so the tour was perfect to visit the most important sites and learn about their details too. Great value for money.

Prague Old Town New Town and Jewish Quarter Morning Tour
Michal was the best! He gave great insight into the history of each location that we visited, and made sure we stayed engaged. He brought us to places that we would have never found. The tour was a great overview of many areas, and only took a few hours which allowed us to go back and visit the places we were very interested in. This tour was so worth it, and we highly recommend the tour, especially with Michal, to anyone who is in Prague!

Private Custom Tour: Half-Day Tour of Prague Castle and Old Town
Peter was a wonderful driver and Blanca kept us entertained with interesting facts and stories about everything we saw, especially in St. Vitus Cathedral and the castle area. She answered all our questions and recommended a very good restaurant for lunch, after giving us directions to the shops we wanted to visit after the tour. The car was very comfortable. One of our party used a transport chair, and Peter took him to a cafe for a pleasant break while the rest of us toured inaccessible areas on foot. I would highly recommend this tour!

Old Town Tour and Dinner with Folk Show in Prague
Superior evening with 30 global colleagues started with a very casual, yet informative, tour of some city highlights (can't see them all in an hour ;-) that ended at a restaurant with traditional fair and a folklore show. Great artisans -- band and dancers -- delighted us throughout the evening, encouraged audience participation and even played some popular and contemporary songs during the last set. Owners were 'hosts with the most' dishing up deliciousness and pouring the cold beer. Take a trip back in time ... and enjoy a memorable evening.

When to Get There

Most tour guides time their arrival at Old Town Square to see the astronomical clock display, which occurs at the turn of every hour, but you can admire the square’s grand architecture anytime. It can get extremely busy during the day, especially during the peak summer months, so opt for an early morning visit to avoid crowds. Visit the square after dark to see the buildings dramatically illuminated, or stop by during the festive holiday season, when the square hosts the city’s main Christmas market.
