The Basics

You can climb, jump off, and slide down natural waterslides on this obstacle course created by Mother Nature and the Damajagua River. Tour guides will take you as far as the seventh waterfall and provide appropriate safety equipment, such as helmets and life jackets. It is possible to explore beyond the seventh waterfall, but interested adrenaline seekers will need to arrange private transportation from Puerto Plata or Cabarete, then a private guide and safety equipment upon arrival at Damajagua Falls.

Great trip to the falls - nice intimate tour v large buses.
This was a great trip. Alexander was fantastic tour guide and made the falls and coffee shop stop great. Explained a lot about the DR and was very good. Using Viator provided us an intimate experience compared to the cruise ship tours on a bus. Was me, my son and girlfriend. We got to do more on the falls than most tours. The only negative was the walk from Carnival to where the external tours were - worth it though.

Amber Cove Shore Excursion: 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua / Cruise Ship Passengers
What a wonderful experience. It’s a strenuous hike in spots but the guides stop along the way to allow for rest. The water is crystal clear and it is beautiful. Our guides were so professional and kept us informed every step of the way. The lunch was also delicious. I’m happy to highly recommend this tour -we were back to our cruise ship with lots of time to spare.

Very well organised. Speedy pick-up, beautiful spot, friendly people/guide! Only minus is that we felt a bit rushed due to the many people visiting the falls.

Amber Cove Shore Excursion: 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua / Cruise Ship Passengers
Perfect excursion for the adventurer who's in good physical shape. Hiking. High jumps off platforms into pools of water. Swimming. Natural rock slides. Super fun in the beautiful lush, mountains of Puerto Plata. We only had time for the 12 falls, but surely wish we had been able to do the 27. Also, we did not have time for the zipline which looked like loads of fun. Carlos (our guide) and his helpers, were fantastic! If you want a challenge and thrill, GO FOR IT.

Enjoyed jumping off of 26 ft waterfall! Also sliding down the rock formations! It was quite a hike up to the waterfalls but Julio and Flacco were very attentive to our needs. Took very good care of us! Buffet lunch and rum and coke were amazing! A must do excursion! Loved Amber Cove!

Such a fantastic experience. I’m so glad we went with Mama Iguana over another tour group. Carlos was our guide and he was fun, clear with instructions (he speaks great English) and helped us feel really safe the whole time. The falls were incredible and such a unique experience. We also got to enjoy a much smaller group than the other “cruise official” groups and we got back to the port with plenty of time to still shop and enjoy. Really can’t recommend this tour enough!

Had a blast!! The hike up was about 30 minutes, but it wasn't too bad. I recommend getting a photographer to take the photos (which is offered). Carlos was a great tour guide.

Amber Cove Shore Excursion: 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua / Cruise Ship Passengers
What fun! We did all 27 falls, and we thought the additional $10 per person was well worth the cost. Although my husband is 77 and I am 76, we are quite active and in good health, so we had no problem keeping up with our group. (Would not recommend the trip for someone who has trouble walking on uneven terrain.) Our guide, Raul, was great, kept us on task, and was very solicitous of our safety and well-being. The gorge itself is beautiful, and, as an amateur photographer, I was tempted to stop often for photos. One suggestion--following the instructions we received from Iguana Mamma, we did bring cash for tipping our guide. When we got into the park, however, we found that we somehow had "acquired" two more guides--an actual park guide and another fellow who just came along to help and take photos when we asked (not the official park photo service). As there were only four of us, three guides seemed a bit much, although all of them were very helpful and the fellow taking our photos did a great job and certainly cost us less than the park's photo service! Just be sure to bring enough cash for tipping three guides! All in all, a wonderful experience and well worth the time and cost! Happy we did the trip!

Great Tour Operator

Amber Cove Shore Excursion: 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua / Cruise Ship Passengers
Upon booking this excursion, Iguana Mama emailed detailed directions on how and when to meet up with them. The directions were easy to follow and when we got to the appointed spot, they were waiting for us with a sign in hand. The bus ride was pleasant and we were able to see part of the city and countryside. Upon arrival, we were fitted with helmets and lifevests. Then, our tour operator and park guides led us to the falls. The guides stayed with us the entire excursion and made sure we safely reached each spot. At each jump/slide, there was a route to go around if you weren't comfortable. The falls were fun - we were all glad we went - but we aren't raving about it - hence the 4-star review. After the falls, we had lunch (delicious and huge portions) and rum and coke before heading back. It was a unique experience that allowed us to also see part of the country.

Highlight of our cruise, not to be missed!

Amber Cove Shore Excursion: 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua / Cruise Ship Passengers
Amber Cove is a beautiful port on the tropical island of the Dominican Republic. The walk was an easy one to find the shuttle, exactly where they told us they would be. We were informed that there were only 7 waterfalls available and we had the option to not do the excursion but we were undeterred and glad that we did not cancel. They even gave us a partial refund for the shortened trip but don't be discouraged by this! Even with a shortened trip it was worth every penny and should not be missed. The hike was easy if you are in shape but be advised that could be difficult if not. The guides are great, we had our older parents with us and new they might not be able to make the excursion but they wanted to be with the family. Ricardo was so great and took them up a hike where they could wait for the rest of us to come down the falls. Our parents were so appreciative of this and enjoyed the hike with him while he described many details along the way. All this and his still managed to catch up with us at the top! The slides are amazing and the jumps are exhilarating, you can even do both sometimes on the same waterfall. Carlos, our main guide, made the trip a great one and the hike through the jungle to the top is a beautiful one. Lunch afterwards was a real treat and the rum and cokes hit the spot! Definitely pay for the photographer, you won't have time nor want to stop to take your own pictures as everything will be very wet. Can't speak highly enough of Carlos and his crew, all of us wanted to return to the island again and hopefully hit some more waterfalls when the rain cooperates.
