The Basics

Advance reservations are required to visit the Borghese Gallery and numbers are limited at any given time, so it’s best to book tickets in advance. Travelers can book skip-the-line tickets, a private or small-group tour, or opt for a Segway tour of the greater Borghese Villa. Art historians often lead small-group tours, which add context to the artwork you’re seeing. Even without a tour, you will feel the impressionable impact of Raphael’sThe Deposition and Caravaggio’sDavid with the Head of Goliath, two of the museum’s most famous works.

No.1 place to visit in Rome.
Amazing experience, would recommend to everyone. Small group gives you an ability to stand one by one with Berninis masterpieces. In contrary to Vatican museum here quality dominates on quantity. Important note: this is not a guided tour, only tickets are included. P.S. Perfect service from Viator.

Borghese Gallery Virtual Tour: A Cardinal's Dream
Federica is the best guide we’ve ever met in the whole world. She made the sculptures and Borghese gallery come alive and her professionalism, intimate knowledge of art history and excellent personality were a delight. We felt as if we were there together in the museum, and can’t wait to come there in person.

Borghese Gallery admission ticket
A must - well worth the time to see stunning artifacts and treasures. All very covid safe. Tip - go in last and the 2 hours alloted is more than enough time to go around several times.

2-Hour Skip-the-Line Tickets to the Borghese Gallery in Rome
This experience was one of the best of my life. I was immersed in culture and beauty. Every dimension of the Gallery Borghese is exquisite, from the ceilings to the floors. Inside and out. If you love history, art, beauty, this is a must see. Great experience during covid, it was relatively empty and I found myself alone in rooms so I could fully spore the art from any angle. It does sell out due to the reduced capacity so book ahead.

Semi-Private max 3 people Tour: Skip the Line Borghese Gallery
The tour with Kylie of Storytelling Tours was truly excellent. She was able to seamlessly weave together information about art history, artistic techniques, cultural circumstances and political influence to make the works come alive in context. The gallery truly has masterpieces and Kylie helped us appreciate how truly spectacular they are.

Borghese Gallery Private Tour Explore the Masterpieces by Bernini Caravaggio and Raphael
Our tour guide, Franz, was great. Punctual, very knowledgeable and engaging. Was able to succinctly put the history and art work together in a fun way. Learned a lot. This is our third time taking the same tour, and has been absolutely excellent time. Money well spent.

Borghese Gallery Small-Group Tour - Baroque & Renaissance in Rome
Learned a lot on this tour. Alex, our guide, was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. We spent most of the tour with Bernini's sculptures and Caravaggio's paintings and the back stories and information made the art come more alive. Well done!

Borghese Gallery Private Tour
Impressive gallery and a truly expert guide who made the tour enjoyable and at a friendly pace. He also demonstrated excellent flexibility when the expected limousine encountered problems.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Borghese Gallery is a must-see for art lovers in Rome.

  • Even with a required advance-purchase ticket, there can be long entry lines. To avoid the wait, consider a private, skip-the-line guided tour.

  • The Borghese limits the number of people who can enter and the time they can stay (two hours), so it’s a great place to enjoy fine art and avoid the crowds found at most Roman art museums.

The Borghese Family Effect

The Borgheses were a powerful Italian family who rose to prominence and wealth after one member became Pope Paul V in 1552 and gave power and titles to many family members. One such was the pope’s nephew, Cardinal Scipione Borghese, who built the Villa Borghese and Borghese Gardens in the 17th century to hold parties and house his private art collections. He was a patron of the famous artist Bernini, so many of Bernini’s sculptures—includingApollo and Daphne andDavid—are held in the Borghese collection.
