The Basics

St. Catherine’s Monastery is free to enter, but there is a small charge to enter St. Catherine’s Protected Area plus an additional fee to view the priceless ancient manuscripts in the library. Much of the monastery is closed off to visitors to allow the monks their privacy.

St. Catherine’s Monastery is typically visited as a day trip from either Dahab or Sharm el Sheikh. Some St. Catherine’s Monastery tours include a sunrise climb of Mt. Sinai above, while others make stops at desert sites such as the Colored Canyon.

St-Catherine Monastery & Moses' Mountain From Sharm El Sheikh
The tour was a great experience for us. Hiking up the mountain at night is fantastic, as well as the view in the morning. The pick up and transfer was very well organized - we got a call 1 day before with our exact pickup time. Our guide was waiting for us on the foot of moses moutain to guide us up. Well done and thank you

Sunrise at Mount Sinai and St. Catherine monastery. Trip from Sharm el Sheikh
It’s a great experience and an amazing view at the top. The drivers and guide were on point with the pickup and drop off locations and the local Bedouin guide was nice and did a good job at keeping track of everyone in our group on the way up.

St Catherine And Dahab From Sharm-El-Sheikh Private Full Day Tour
Weather at Mt. Sinai prevented us from hiking it, but that was ok. St. Catherine's monastery was worth the trip there. Snorkeling/diving at Dahab was also great.

Visiting a beautiful monastery in Sinai

St. Catherine Tour from Sharm El-Sheikh
Saint Catherine's monastery tour was exceptional, with a short stop in Dahab. One regret : I visited it on a Friday (when the monastery is only open during one hour instead of 2.5 the rest of the week). A global remark : the price of the tour is quite expensive for a family but there is less possibilities to do it by your self.

Mount Sinai Sunrise and St. Catherine's Monastery Trip from Dahab
I would recommend the private tour, that way you can do it at your own pace and have a nicer car. The view front the top of the mountain is breath taking gorgeous! So worth the time and lack of sleep, make sure you pack extra clothing because it´s freezing at the top of the mountain.

Day Tour To Catherine’s Monastery From Sharm El Sheikh
A well preserved place, full of history, in the mid of the Sinai mountains (1200 metres altitude). The nice experience was partly spoiled by the discovery that other people travelling with us (the exactly same tour) had paid HALF the price we paid via Viator!

Phantastic nature, poor guides
Bernd_M, Jan 2022
Mount Sinai Sunrise & St. Catherine monastery from Sharm el Sheikh
Sunrise on Mount Moses is a phantastic experience. Highly recommended! Unfortunately, the impressive St. Catherine's monastery was closed for church holiday. And the guides did not explain a lot about the history and places in general - neither on the bus nor on the mountain. Maybe this was due to their poor language skills (both in Russian and in English), but it was sad nevertheless. A previous experience with a Getyourguide tour of Gizeh was absolute the opposite. Good: excellent new Mercedes tor bus with very comfortable seats. In a nutshell: a phantastic place, but little input besides the nature.

St. Catherine’s Monastery The Biblical Sites

According to the Old Testament, God once spoke to Moses through a burning bush, instructing him to beg the Egyptian pharaoh to release the Jews from captivity. St. Catherine’s Monastery was founded in the Sinai because of a rare bush that the monks believed was the original burning bush. It’s also home to the well where some believe Moses met his wife Zipporah.
