Correr Museum (Museo Correr)

San Marco 52, Venice, 30124

The Basics

Set in the 16th-century Procuratie Nuove and 19th-century Napoleonic Wing on St. Mark’s Square, the Correr Museum is home to an extensive collection of Venice artifacts. Sculptures by Antonio Canova and sumptuous Imperial Rooms used by the Hapsburgs during their residency in Venice share space with relics of the Venetian republic, including model ships, maps, and weaponry.

Due to the size and scope of its collections, the Correr Museum is best visited with a guide who can explain the museum’s architecture and art. You can join a private tour of the museum, or take a more general tour that includes skip-the-line entrance to St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), and all three St. Mark’s Square museums (Correr Museum, National Archaeological Museum, and Marciana National Library).

Knowledgeable Guide

Venice guided tour of Doges Palace, Saint Mark's Basilica and Correr museum tour
Our guide was very knowledgeable - one of the best that we had on this 2 week trip. The tour of St. Mark's was a whirlwind, get-in-and-get-out kind of thing, but in the peak of the tourist season I suspect that it is required of the tour operators to move their groups through. The tour of Doge's Palace was at a more relaxed pace and I felt that iwe saw most if not all of what it had to offer. Again, the narrative from our guide was very detailed and informed.

Our guide Hazel was great and knowledgeable. The headsets for the tour were really helpful. I would have liked to have spent a little longer in the prison section of the Doge’s Palace. Overall, it was a really great tour.

Great tour!!! we loved our tour guide-- we forgot his name, but he had medium brown hair, somewhat tall, thin frame, and spoke fast. However, he was awesome. We loved it! He flooded us with information that was very interesting and fun. I would definitely recommend to anyone that wants a great, fun informative tour about the Basilica and Doges Palace. Tour duration was just right. Thank you very much!

It was a very good tour. The tour guide was full of information and we had the opportunity to explore the palace on our own after the tour finished. The ticket we received also allowed us entry into other galleries in Venice.

When to Get There

Expect crowds in Venice during summer, with spring or fall seeing fewer visitors. The museum can be a welcome respite from the crush in St. Mark’s Square and is open daily with no midday closing.

The Drawing Room of Europe

St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) is the geographic and cultural heart of Venice. It’s home to St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace at one end and the bell tower in the center. The colonnaded arcade topped by the Procuratie palaces and Napoleonic Wing lines three sides. The square is one of the most popular spots in the city to relax at an outdoor table with a drink and soak in the Venetian atmosphere.
