3,856 Reviews
Free admission
A place of stark, wild beauty, this black-sand beach on the south coast is one of Iceland’s most photogenic locations. Here, roaring Atlantic waves batter the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, the black pebble shoreline, and the pyramid-like cliff of basalt columns known as Garðar, where puffins and guillemots can be seen.

Volcanic History Super Jeep Tour from Vik
For three hours take you on a ride to explore the volcanic region east of Vík called Mydalssandur in a massive Mercedes Sprinter Super Jeep. Myrdalssandur is a flood plain and sand desert created by the massive water outbursts that come down from the glacier when Katla underneath it blows. You are gonna find out more about the volcanic history in this area, hear famous Icelandic stories told over generations, learn about the wildlife in this area and see where some parts of Star Wars: Rogue One were shot. The landscape impresses with picturesque views that are ideal to take great photos. We are gonna visit the glacier and its ash layers in the ice. If conditions allow it we even take a look inside the ice cave (usually this is however only possible in the winter). On the way back we visit an old sea cave where lots of birds and different plants can be spotted and enjoy an empty black sand beach.

South Coast and Waterfalls Day Tour
From Reykjavik we will make our way towards the cliffs of southern Iceland. Our first stop will be at Seljalandfoss, the famous waterfall that allows travelers to walk behind the column of water that plummets down from the cliffs above, and its impressive and surprising neighbor, Gljúfrabúi, or the ¨hidden waterfall¨, that many travelers do not visit because it does not appear in all guidebooks. In this area we will witness the effects of the famous Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that caused chaos in European air traffic in 2010.
We will continue our southern route to Skógafoss, a waterfall that measures 60 meters tall and 25 meters wide and is one of the biggest in Iceland. Here we will have the chance to enjoy the surrounding areas and climb to the highest point of the waterfall. Our next stop will be in Reynisfjara, a black-sand beach that boasts impressive basaltic rock formations and views of the famous trolls that, according to legend, were petrified when caught in the sea at sunrise.
Dyrhólaey will be our final stop of the day, and from this lookout point high above the sea we will observe interesting lava formations as well as large puffin colonies that nest here in the summer months (mid-June to mid-August).
This is a unique day tour to several spectacular sites along Iceland´s South Coast. You don't want to miss it!
Tour guided in English and Spanish (español)with stops at Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara and Dyrhólaey
