The Basics

Take your seat and settle in for a ride, as the traditional cogwheel train meanders its way towards Mt. Gornergrat’s dizzying summit. On arrival, pose for pictures on the observation platform, shop Europe’s highest shopping mall, dine at a mountaintop restaurant, or explore the outdoors on a skiing, hiking, or sledding route, with a range of half- or full-day activities from which to choose.

Day tours typically begin in a major Swiss city and combine a mountain excursion with a walking tour of Zermatt, or other Alpine attractions. Multi-day tours offer a wider perspective of Switzerland, with some even crossing the border into neighboring Italy or Lichtenstein. Swiss Travel Passes offer discounted access to the mountain railway, plus unlimited use of Switzerland’s wider transportation system.

Wonderful
Wonderful trip and tour guide. Of course because it’s a day trip you will have limited time in the area but that’s the nature of the day trip. We were the only three on the tour.

We were fortunate to see the Matterhorn in all her magnificence with no cloud cover. An experience not to be missed.

Guidance but no entertainment

Zermatt Village Matterhorn Area plus Mt. Gornergrat Small Group Tour from Basel
Our guide was efficient and kind, but not very informative. There was no ongoing patter about history or interesting things we saw. He did point out some highlights, but was far from chatty as most guides we’ve had elsewhere.

Zermatt Village Matterhorn Area plus Mt. Gornergrat Small Group Tour from Basel
Amazing experience on the top of the world. Eric (the Guide) did a fantastic logistics job which meant that we could do a return trip from Basel to Zermatt and spend quality time at the viewing point - all in the same day. The return journey went like clockwork.

Zermatt Village Matterhorn Area plus Mt. Gornergrat Small Group Tour from Zürich
This was a great trip to Zermatt and Matterhorn area. It was indeed a small group tour. Only my family sign up for this tour on that day. It is almost like a private tour. Our guide, Eric was superb and friendly. He kept us entertained and comfortable throughout the whole trip. He is an experience and knowledgeable guide. The schedule for this tour was very flexible. Eric adjusted the itineraries according to our needs and interest. We enjoyed this trip a lot!

I would highly recommended this tour. Anna, our tour guide was awesome. She was very knowledgeable, fun and provided an all around memorable experience. The Matterhorn area is breath taking as well as the train rides from Bern to Zermatt. Being in a small group setting your getting personalized individual attention. We learned so much about the Switzerland culture. Two thumbs up!

An amazing trip of a lifetime

Zermatt Village Matterhorn Area plus Mt. Gornergrat Small Group Tour from Zürich
The meeting point needs some sort of signage etc. I ran around for over 25 mins trying to find the group meeting place. I had to ask so many people and received no help. One gentleman was finally able to point me in the right direction. Once on the train and the sweat being wiped away from trying to find the meeting spot all was spectacular the rest of the day. What a fantastic experience!! Getting the first glimpse of the Matterhorn on the train, I got so excited I could hardly wait to see it up close. Back down to Zermatt I was super excited to see this charming town. We didn't have much time there which was a bumber as I could have easily spent a few hours there eating and doing some shopping and going in some of the magnificent hotels. Would love to return one day....

We had such a wonderful time on our full day in Zermatt & the Matterhorn area! As an added bonus, there was a fun group of Swiss singers with their accordion on the train ride, and we got a authentic concert! Genie, our guide, was friendly & fun with lots of interesting information. She knew her stuff! I would recommend this tour - well worth the time & money!
