Returns to original departure point
Belize is famous for its remarkable snorkeling sites and diverse sea life. With a name that means “Little Channel” in Maya, Hol Chan Marine Reserve was the first such designated reserve in Central America and is located among the second-largest barrier reef in the world. Just a quick ride by motorboat from Ambergris Caye, Hol Chan will be the first stop on your snorkeling adventure.

After donning a snorkeling mask and fins, you'll be ready to splash into the shallow, clear Caribbean waters to explore the amazing coral reef formations below. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, this area boasts a wonderfully healthy and diverse population of marine life, including 160 different species of fish. You’re likely to spot large schools of snapper, grouper, and jackfish darting among the impressive coral formations, as well as larger creatures like sea turtles and stingrays.

Hop back aboard your boat for a quick ride over to Shark Ray Alley, a shallow channel in the reef where these two bottom feeders are found in abundance. Swim among gentle stingrays, with wingspans up to 4 feet (1.2 meters), as well as harmless brown nurse sharks that can reach lengths of more than 9 feet (2.75 meters). After getting your fill of these marvelous marine animals, you’ll be transported back to Ambergris Caye and your San Pedro hotel.

Our guides were super friendly s d efficient. They knew what they were doing and we're very informative about the reef, wildlife, and their ecosystems. Swam with fish and nurse sharks as well. Really good time, and next time, we'll check out the night snorkeling!

We did the snorkeling adventure through Amigo Del Mar Dive Shop. Our guide Carlos (AKA Meow) was amazing. Made everyone comfortable and very professional. The knowledge and skill this guy has would be hard to beat. I would recommend this company all day long. Thanks for the Awsome experience Carlos. We will be back.

Saw a variety of marine life!

We did a half day tour with Jonathan and it was fantastic! He was able to point out and name all kinds of fish and marine life, including a puffer fish and spotted eagle ray. We spent about 45 min snorkeling at Hol Chan and it was the perfect amount of time. Only complaint is that I wish we stayed at Shark Ray Alley for longer than 15 minutes. We caught the tail-end of another boat feeding the nurse sharks and were able to see them for a few minutes, however once the food was gone the sharks were gone as well. Not sure why our guide didn't bring bait to keep the sharks around and give us time to swim.

Everything was perfect. We were picked up promptly, saw an abundance of fish- including enormous sharks and rays. One of the best things I’ve done. It would still be a bargain at twice the price! Excellent value.

I was so excited about this trip and it seemed like the reviews were great, but we did not have that same experience. They told us they would pick us up at 8:45 from our hotel's dock, they came at about 9:05 with no apologies for being late. I understand tours can run behind pick up other people, but it was so hot sitting in the direct sun for that long and having no idea what the boat looked like and having to ask every boat that came by if they were for us. They seemed put out to even be having to pick us up, but it's included in the price. When we got to Hol Chan we were informed that we were on a boat full of other people who were doing snuba. We were the only 2 snorkelers on this trip, I'm not sure why we'd have been put on the same trip as them. We had to sit there and wait forever while every one went out doing the snuba. It was such a waste of time. When we did get to snorkel they made us go out with a guide and he told us we had to stay with him, which was fine, but he seriously was the slowest swimmer I could ever imagine. I felt like we sat in the water waiting for him to catch up, I got so cold in the water being still waiting for him. The reefs were beautiful and shark ray alley was great, but overall this tour company was pretty awful. Rude, not helpful, and the fact that it was not as advertised being a snuba trip was a real disappointment.

Our guide was amazing. Small boat, but better than the other boats out there. We got a lot more time in the water than other companies doing the same tour. Plus since it was a smaller group there were a lot less people which is always better when snorkeling.
