The 10 Tastings of Berlin With Locals: Private Food Tour

I just loved this tour! Carlos was my tour guide and he met me on time at the 36 Curry restaurant. We stopped at various food and drink places which I could have never found on my own. Carlos was friendly and it was interesting to hear about his life experience in Germany as a real local. He has lived in Berlin for many years, but he is originally from Columbia in South America. He knows a lot about the history of Berlin and was very open to answering all of my questions believe me, I had many!. I highly rate this food and drink tasting and walking tour, which is exactly that, you'll walk a lot and get the chance to taste things like curry wurst and other typical German and ethnic treats found in the city. By the end of the three hour tour, I felt like Carlos had become a good friend. Don't miss this tour with Carlos!

Great tour on a cold evening! Julio was knowledgeable and friendly. Very informal with just 3 of us which was nice - we learned a bit of history but it didn't feel like a classroom lecture. It was a mix of German and other cuisines - not fancy, but we didn't expect that. Left very full after 4 hours

was concerned to see some poor reviews of this food tour before we went to Berlin as I arranged the tour on behalf of 6 friends visiting Berlin over New Year. I was right to be concerned. Whilst our guide Julio was friendly and pleasant, he had only lived in Berlin for 3 years so didnt have much local knowleste. We met at Curry36, but didnt eat anything here as we were advised it was a bad place for pickpockets..Our first Stop was for a little pastry at a cake shop, followed by turkey legs, cabbage and a piece of cut up sweet pancake at a market stall. The market looked interesting but there was no chance to look round. We then went to a Vietnamese restaurant for spring rolls. There was then a long walk through an uninteresting neighbourhood to stop a stall selling gluwein and currywust for no apparent reason. The final stop was for a kebab and beer at a rather run down Turkish restaurant. The food overall was average at best. Im very happy to eat food from stalls if they represent excellent examples of local food. These did not, they seemed completely random and no one was expecting us. I cant believe they represented the best Berlin had to offer. We have done lots of food tours before and had praised them to our friends, this one was woefully inadequate and an embarrassment. This was the most expensive tour we did whilst in Berlin. Poor value for money - we were all still hungry at the end. The food we had bore little resemblance to the advertised list on Viator too!

This tour was a waste of 110 ,our guide had very limited knowledge of the food we were given and not much info of the area. we were led to a succession of food stalls/cafes without any apparent logic and we could have done it ourselves without travelling more than a couple of blocks and paid about 20 euros in total. Our guide spent most of the time on his phone checking and sending e mails or answering calls. We felt very disappointed ,we have done food tours in Malaga and Wellington and they were far far superior.

The guide was knowledgeable about the area and generally very good. We enjoyed the walk this was my 5th visit to Berlin and I will return and stay in the area we walked around. However, we booked a food tour and this is the worst I have experienced - the food was dreadful - there were plenty of other places during the tour we could have stopped at but didn't. I would have preferred to try some other concessions in the food market and the street market in addition to the ones we experienced. The worst were the spring rolls why bother and the kebab intimidating - not a place to take western women and very disappointing. When I read though the itinerary for the tour I assumed these items were a German twist to imported cuisine, but they were inedible. I have booked several Viator food tours and my advice to Viator is to distance themselves from this local company who in my opinion has sullied their reputation.

The tour gave a nice sampling of various foods. Met a local at one stop who asked our guide how he found one of the best places in town. We had an enjoyable conversation. Would like to have learned more about the neighborhoods. The guide was answered questions ... just be ready to ask a lot of them.

We loved this tour! Sara was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the city and all of its different cultures. The food choices were excellent and very yummy! It was a great experience to taste different foods from around the world, Highly recommend the host and the tour!

This tour was very poor. The guide Liz turned up half an hour late, not a good start. It got worse. This was a premium price private tour. The guide was unable to answer even the most basic food questions. No special arrangements were made at the places we visited. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Mixed experience. Our guide Carlos was 10-15 minutes late starting the tour at the appointed meeting point, the Curry 36 restaurant. He did call and explained that there was some problem on the subway but one would have expected he would allow some cushion. Anyhow, we then proceeded to the various stops sampling not just the currywurst ok at best but also bratwurst fried sausage, bulette German for hamburger, giant potato pancakes kartoffelpuffer at a road stall, one of the best vegetable spring rolls at a Vietnamese restaurant and falafel at a middle eastern shack. We had skipped breakfast anticipating the food but were still barely able to manage to finish the samplings. Counting stops, it turns out there are actually 9, not 10, and when we asked our guide, he reluctantly agreed that indeed on his list also there were only 9. The worst part of the tour was really the guide himself, who expressed an unabashed desire to partake on most of the food items with us, notwithstanding that most of them he brought on a small plate and that many items were more suitably eaten by hand, which concerned us greatly in terms of hygiene. Not to be prejudicial, but he also did not seem to believe in the use of napkins with the result that some of the food was visibly trapped in his beard through the tour and again did not lend itself to an aesthetic experience. I do commend the guide for being friendly and telling us how we was managing his higher studies with his job as a tour guide but minimum attention to appearance and hygiene is a must in that regard.

Our tour guide Tiago was very friendly and super personable. We did all 10 food tastings, plus 1 extra and by the end of the tour we were totally stuffed! We felt bad because Tiago was battling some allergies, but he still did a great job telling us about the neighborhoods and foods. We had a great time and didn't need to eat the rest of the day. Would certainly do the tour again! The only thing we would change is to maybe either space it out a bit more or to switch one food with another drink to help from over stuffing. Of course, we had the option to doggie bag it, but we decided we wanted to accept the challenge and just eat everything! :D
