Would not go again, especially not during covid

Covid 19 safety measures -> there were basically none: - the bus they put us in was full of people with no safety distance - no one was asked (not to say required) to wear a mask, so no one did, even though couple passagenres were coughing heavily - none of the guides wore mask – not in a bus, not in the interior of the museum, nowhere - no disinfection was provided Overall organisation - Instructions: they put us in a bus with a guide who only spoke russian (and we specifically asked for english speaking guide when we bought the trip), so we did not have any information during the whole journey by bus – we got an english speaking guide only after we arrived in Cairo (more on their guidance below) - Sleeping: they put us in a bus at 1am but then we spent another 2 hours driving around the Hurghada hotels and picking up other people – we kind of expected this to happen, but the driver could have at least switch off the light in the bus and let us sleep druing that time, no keeping us awake unnecessarily until 3am. After that, we were woken up again at approx 4 am to fill in some papers (why they couldnt do it when we were entering the bus? Why they had to wake us up again?) - Food: they did not communicate anything about when the bus will stop and when is the good time to go to bathroom or have breakfast – we stopped only once during the way to Cairo, it was at 6am which was too soon to have breakfast but as we learnt later, it was the only time to do so (there were no other stops where you could buy some and have time to eat it). The only stop for food was the stop for lunch at approx 14:00 (8 hours after the last break which you could use for food!) – the lunch was good and there was plenty of food so you could fill yourself up. That would be advisable because on the way back, there was again no mention of the right time to buy and eat dinner. Otherwise the lunch was a bit in hurry. - Toilets: none of the toilets we were able to visit (i.e. the break in the middle of the way to Cairo, tiolets at the Egyptian musem, in the restaurant where we had lunch, in the parfume shop after we have seen pyramids) had toilet paper! When we asked for some, they gave us 2 pieces of paper tissues (literary!, when we asked for more, we got another 2 pieces and when we asked for the whole roll they either didnt understand or didn’t care. This was a bit of a hell. Also, some of the toilets were charged 5 EGP and none of them were clean (inclusing those which were charged for). If you want to go to Cairo, I’d recommend bringing your own toilet paper with you, because neither Egyptians nor the travel agency will help you. Guide - we met our english guide Hanan in the Egyptian museum and since we were only 4 english speking people in the whole bus, we had more of a private tour. However, she wasn’t very talkative and she gave us basic instructions and pointed to the important things rather than telling us more about Egyptian history, stories, etc.. We didn’t learn much new as a result. - on a plus side, since there were only 4 of us, she arranged a 30 minutes camel riding around the pyramids for us for 200 EGP (10 EUR) per person, which would probably not be possible with a larger group - aside from the main program (egyptian musem, nile cruise and giza pyramids) she took us to some additional shops (papyrus shop, perfume shops), where she said they will show us interesting things, but after showing us for how they make papyrus/perfumes for 5 minutes, they spent another 15 by persuading us to buy something from them. In the papyrus shop, the seller was following us on every step and didnt let us enjoy the gallery, asking whether we want to buy every time we stopped to také a look at some piece of papyrus. To show us the perfume shop, our guide took us away from Sphinx (which was kind of the main part of the programme and the part we most looked forward to) earlier, which was very upsetting as we couldnt come back to the Sphinx when we found out what she was up to. All the sellers also looked to be close friends with our guide, so we were wondering whether she want to actually show us something interesting about egypt or whether she just wanted to help her good friends sell more stuff. Also, all these things that she took us to seemed like it was official part of the programme and she didn’t give us a choice whether we want to go there or what are the alternatives (e.g. staying a bit longer watching pyramids).

Brilliant trip. Long day but well organised. Drivers worked very hard to get us safely through the busy Cairo traffic. Great guide Abi. Thank you to Sebastian who did his very best to rearrange our trip when it had to be cancelled due to the storm.

Tolles Erlebnis mit vielen Abstrichen

Pyramiden und Museum waren sehr sehenswert. Allerdings alles sehr touristisch.
