Lunch concerns
Madison_T
, May 2022
The only complaint I have is the servers at lunch. I tried to order a beer two times before I was listened to. I even ordered in Spanish! I tried to order a margarita as my 3rd drink and was told I would have to pay (even though I was told cocktails were included w/premium). Then I tried to order a beer and he refused bc I couldn’t take it on the bus. However, the bus hadn’t left yet so I had time. I ended up leaving with a water bc I didn’t want to forfeit my last water.

This was one of the highlights of our vacation. The whole thing was very organized and well executed. Our bus was super comfortable and the bus driver (Armondo) was wonderful. Tomas was the best tour guide we could have ever asked for. Tomas really brought the Mayan people, culture, and genius to life and you could tell he is very passionate about his work. It was an amazing experience!

Although it was a long day, I 100% recommend this trip, we were sufficiently fed, hydrated and treated with such respect. Gonzalo and the other tour guide was so informative, kind and I would not have enjoyed it as much without them.

A trip worth taking

Victor and Adrian were fun guides. Victor provided a lot of Mayan history. I did enjoy the tour and would recommend it. A few things of note though; we first arrived at a buffet place that was a big tourist center. Our guides helped the place try and get us to buy lots of stuff there so the stop took a long time by the time we ate lunch (which was really good). This time would have given us more time at the Cenote (instead of 1 hour to change swim, change and be back on the bus) plus the stop at the town was only a half hour to find and eat dinner.

I had to pay an added $60. No one likes hidden charges Tour guides and bus were all good. The initial $60 surprise at the beginning of the day was a damper.

Don't waste your vacation on this tour

We were extremely unhappy with this tour. This supposedly 10-12 hour tour started at 7am waiting in our hotel lobby and ended at 10:14pm. It was over 15 hours, and most of it was spent on the bus. We started waiting in our hotel lobby in Playa del Carmen at 7am and finally made the last guest pickup in Tulum at 10:35am. Then we started the drive and actual tour. Due to so much time on the bus our times at the advertised stops were reduced. I understand there were at least three buses that day. The buses should have been organized into groups that left from Playa del Carmen and groups that left from Tulum. On the way home we pulled over so that people could change buses because they were being dropped off at the same pickup spot. Those people should have been on the same bus to begin with. There were no covid protocols. There was no social distancing - every bus seat was filled, no mask enforcement, no hand sanitizer offered, no sanitizing of high traffic areas, etc. On the bus we passed around items to look at and there was no sanitizer before or after. We were combined spanish and english speakers and the guides spoke in both languages alternating. I understand there were at least three buses that day. It should have been organized into spanish speaking buses and english speaking buses. Also, there were at least three different “tours” on our bus (based on the colored wristbands): premier, classic, and something else. We were all treated the same but we certainly didn’t pay the same amount for our tour. Unlike the itinerary in our ticket, the first stop was a souvenir place where we had lunch. Our itinerary said we were to have lunch at Cenote Saamal. We did not go to Saamal as advertised... we went to "Selva Maya Hacienda Restaurante" according to our life jacket ticket. We arrived at sunset. There was no explanation of the cenote or the grounds around it...the only explanation was where to buy life jackets. It was dark when we got to Valladolid so we couldn't really see the architecture. There was no description of the architecture or traditions of Valladolid. It was 10:14pm when we got back to the hotel. We missed our planned dinner reservations and show.

Well-organized tour with a funny and knowledgeable Mayan guide, you definitely get more than what you paid for. This will take more than 12 hrs so be prepared.

Overall Awesome!

We loved the whole trip but the main parts were rushed. The time at Chichen Itza and the Cenote were very quick and didn’t give us as much time to enjoy the grandeur of the location. The sales pitch at the Mayan Reservation was a bit much as well.

Very Informative

Trip was great , tourist guide were great, only complaint is that I wish we saw the ruins and the cenote first. We left at 8:15 and returned at 8:30 so this was indeed a 12hour excursion. There were alot of people trying to sell us stuff , if you plan on buying anything make sure you have cash on hand ( not large bills). Tomas , Pastor were our tour guides.

What a fantastic experience! Our bus driver and 4 tour guides were simply amazing - so kind and personable. Chechen Itzá was incredible! The place we stopped at to have lunch and buy obsidian on our way to the ruins was delicious and amazing. We loved learning about the Mayan culture. Then, to go swim in the cenote was absolutely beautiful and almost surreal. Thank you for providing such a fabulous opportunity!

Victor was the most knowledgeable tour guide that I have ever experienced and I am so grateful to have had the chance to support the Mayan people and embrace their culture.

Premier not at all !

Bought the more expensive option expecting a less crowded transportation and differentiated food and drinks service. In the end went in the same bus, had the same guide and food as if I had bought the most BASIC option. We arrived in Chichen Itza at the hottest time of the day, which made the Main experience less enjoyable.

Missing spots

We took the premier package. They pick us up in a small van on time and then took us to a store in quinta avenida, we waited outside the shop for long time. We depart from Playa del Carmen at 9.30, They took us to Tulum to pick up more people. Tourguide talked a little about Mayan culture but most of the talk was about Obsidian rock ,(later on will take us to the shop) It was ok but the complaining about the salaries and government not supporting. We stopped in the shop for almost 2 hours (also had lunch with limited 2 drinks each) On the way to chichen itza we asked about the observatory and the sacred cenote at which the answered they were closed to COVID. They also talked about locals selling illegally at chichen. When we arreived they told us that 1.30 hours will be the whole tour with no stops. While taking the tour we asked the new tourguide about the observatory and the sacred cenote, They said they were both open!! That made us feel dissapointed becaused they lied to us, instead of using the time to visit the places they use the time to make us buy stuff for the comission. Many locals selling inside depend on sales for their families and we were told to ignore them, not buy because we could be scammed. On the way back a guy from the previous shop got into the bus to sell usa drink Xtanbentun at 400.00 pesos (250ml) with our printed picture on the bottle. The Cenote they took us was very nice, they had the same drink but bigger 750ml at 200.00 (They dont make you buy it, we just did because we are supportive type of family) They finished by taking us to Valladolid to buy some snacks. Just before dropping us, the talk about supporting them with gratitudes, not tips because they spent more than 10 hours with us and tips are for waiters or taxi drivers. They are with us instead of their families and that with our gratitudes they will have a nice dinner at home. Its very uncomfortable because we pay for a tour to enjoy and have a good time not to feel sorry for the tourguides or their families.

My wife and I travel a lot. I would say this tour was one of the best we've ever done. I've never learned so much in one day! Learning how to count in Mayan, hearing the Mayan language by the locals, really broadened my perspective. It is a very long day - we were picked up at 7:00 AM in Playa Del Carmen and got back to the hotel by 8:30 pm. So be prepared ... but it is worth it!

Long day, but very fun! Our guides were great and attentive. Pedro, our driver, Victor, Adrian, and Jesus. They made the day fabulous. My only complaint / recommendation is to cut out Valladolid. We were so tired we didn't even bother getting off the bus at this point.
