Local market was unique, guides were fun and knowledgeable and food was amazing! We made guacamole, enchiladas, Mexican pizza and quesadillas. Van had strong AC and was clean, was a little warm in the restaurant so if you are going in the summer be prepared.

Nassim was on time with a sign announcing who he was at our hotel. A very professional driver was also provided with a large comfortable air conditioned van. We also received confirmation 20 or 30 mins before Nassim’s arrival by text so make sure to text him back. Nassim was a very gentle man giving lots of history about all sorts of things on the ride to the market. Have your camera ready while driving to the market lots of interesting photos to be taken of huge beautiful murals painted by children from the Cancun Community. After reaching the market we went to several points of food interest where you can purchase just about anything you may want including souvenirs. We also toured a small tortilla manufacturing plant in the market and sampled their product. You may want to skip breakfast before the tour because you will sampling quite a few local made foods at the market. Pro tip while at the market great time to pick up any local fresh fruit or limes for tequila shots back in your hotel room. My wife and I purchased 3 local fruit melons and a kilo of limes for $1.50 American. Should you find yourself needing a restroom break at the market there is a public bathroom you need a 5 peso coin for each person. Final leg of the trip is arrival at restaurant where the fun keeps going. You will be doing meal prep cooking and one jumbo margarita is provided by the tour. If your a lush like my wife I more drinks are available for purchase using dollars pesos or credit/debit card. It is incredible how much work goes into cooking a homemade Mexican meal. We took photos with Nassim in his chefs outfit cooked had drinks and enjoyed the meal we prepared. This was the most authentic experience we had in Cancun also a great respite to let those sunburns heal for the day.

Whipping it up

Let me say this was a great tour for the first day there to have. My guide and chef was Diego. He was very knowledgeable of the culture as well as the food. I was lucky that it was just me that day so it was like having a private tour of the local area. The food in the market smelled so fresh. Diego explained everything we where buying at the market. I didn’t pay for those food items that’s all included. For the cooking lesson he was very patient and again knowledgeable about the food items and how we were preparing them. The food turned out amazing. If you’re wanting to get out there and try new things or just a foodie, this tour is perfect you won’t be disappointed.

What a great tour, the tour guide Nassim was amazing. He is very knowledgeable and shared so much information. Stopping at Market 23 was a lot of fun and a great way to start the tour. Cooking was wonderful and everything we made was so yummy. We will definitely take another Cancún food tour next time we are in Cancun.

I really loved going to the local market to purchase ingredients (where we also got to try crickets). It was a nice small group, just 4 of us and our guide, Nassim was awesome! He was very knowledgeable and educated us on Mexican cooking and culture. I learned some new cooking techniques and we all got to enjoy delicious margaritas while our food cooked. Definitely a unique kind of activity I would highly recommend.
