Missing piece of Europe history

I was running late, my guide patiently greeted me, and so we begin WW II walk through Carcassonne starting at Place de general de Gaulle. Obelisk, Resistance Memorial, a lot of archive photos, plentiful of details about forgotten local resistance heroes. Learned a story about J Bringer, aka Myriel, who lost his life shortly before Wermaht left Carcassonne, when l ask people why So much tragedy, their response is same, War, sacrifice. Any way, awesome tour, if you enjoy ww2 history ask for Paul, who will explain everything in detail, buildings, uniforms, tanks and cannons, thank you much, I have learned about history that did not exist for me until now.

Interesting for all

I’m so glad we chose this tour! Our guide was so engaging and interesting to listen to, both for my travel partner (historian) and for me (no clue about history). There is a good amount of walking but the guide will adjust according to your abilities and take plenty of stops. Keep in mind this isn’t a tour of the medieval city in the ruins (that’s too small for a tour) but of the surrounding areas which is much more interesting. Fantastic experience, highly recommend it!

City of History

Great tour! We got to cover a lot of ground with some great information. Our guide was very sweet and personable. It’s a great experience when someone has passion and knowledge for a subject and it was a good time. I would definitely suggest this tour for anyone interested in history and want to see a lot of the area while doing it. There is history everywhere in that city, I’m happy that I had the chance to learn and understand that.

Informative and enjoyable

We went on this tour with limited understanding of the history of this part of France during WW2. Fortunately we were lucky enough to find a guide with the knowledge and passion to rectify this. The time flew by as we were regaled with tales of courage and heroism under conditions that are hard to comprehend. Pauls enthusiasm was infectious but whatever question we asked he always seemed to have an appropriate answer and often backed it up from his supply of accompanying photographs. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anybody who wants to gain a good understanding of what Carcassonne was like during the war.

With a great enthusiasm, Paul has immersed us into time in Carcassonne during World War2. Two and half hours of walking were very engaging and educational. Paul also had great photos to complement his storytelling. Also, he had created a quiz which made my 9 year old stay focused and ask extra questions. THANK YOU, Paul!
