Staff at the visitors entrance located in the car park of The Historic Dockyard Chatham (Postcode: ME4 4UY) will give you a map of the site and information on where to meet the tour guide.

This activity will end right where it started.
Arrive at the Memorial between HMS Cavalier and HMS Ocelot inside Chatham Dockyard to meet your tour guide, dressed as a midwife, and your group of fellow fans, then set off on a walking tour.

As you make your way around the dockyard and some of the exterior sets of the popular show, listen to anecdotes about the show's filming, behind-the-scenes facts, and the history of Chatham Dockyard. Snap photos of the easily recognizable streets and buildings that are used to portray the area around what's known as Poplar Dock in the show. Marvel at the modern-day dockyard's ability to portray impoverished East End London in the 1950s and 1960s.

Following the tour, ticketholders are free to explore Chatham Dockyard more on their own.

Strictly for fans of Call the Midwife.

It was very interesting to hear how the site was used by the designers of the sets. I can now recognise some of the sites when I watch the programme. Our guide was knowledgeable, she spoke clearly and ensured we could all see and hear her. I would just say you must be someone who watches this programme to understand what the tour was about. It wasn't an historical view of the times.

Great to see how it is made. and how the sets are transformed to what we see on the television. Well worth the trip. I am looking forward to watching the next series.

I did this tour with my daughters and we weren’t disappointed. Irene our guide was so good and very funny. Until we arrived we really didn’t know what to expect. The historic docks have lots of other things to do beside the call the midwife tour. The tour consisted of filming locations and not the actual places mentioned in the early episodes. We had lots of photo opportunities. The hilight was seeing many of the props and costumes used by the cast that we know and love 😊

I all way wanted to see were it was filmed. The lady that did the tour was very good she waited until we were all together before she spoke. It was great to be told how the seens were do and how the docks were changed into the 1960/1970

It was lovely to see where they film the series. The museum where the props was really good. More signage needed to show where you book in. It is at the main desk opposite gravel car park. It is not an actual film studio it is within the history dock museum.

Poor Value

Very tenuous links to clips in episodes which was delivered with the enthusiasm of someone knowing the substance was inferior and needed overkill to sell it. Poor vfm

I bought this experience for my mum for Mother’s Day as she loves ‘call the midwife’. I love it too. My mum had an amazing day, the guide (Irene) was very knowledgable and how she remembered everything was very impressive. Absolutely fascinating tour, would definitely recommend. Now we are both inspired to wstch ALL call the midwife episodes again to spot some familiar surroundings!! Brilliant!!
