Machu Picchu Tour

It did not happened!! You stood us up. Shame on you and your unreliable providers.

Tour guide Tarzan Edgar was very knowledgeable, informative and humorous. Excellent tour guide! Amigo Tours.The provided buffet lunch was delicious. The Machu Picchu experience was impressive and unforgettable!! Would have liked more time on the mountain to hike Huanya Picchu. Absolutely loved the tour!!! One MAJOR PROBLEM was with booking! Was unable to contact Amigo Tours to confirm tour booking prior to our trip. Emailed information to Viator whom confirmed tour company Amigo Tours had received our passport and travel information. This turned out NOT to be the case. When arrived in Cusco, still could not contact Amigo Tours based in Lima and not Cusco. The contact information provided by Viator, both e-mail and telephone numbers were not valid! Had to ask hotel front desk to contact tour company. Turned out to be another tour company based in Lima which evidently partners with Amigo tours.CTM Tours The day before our booked tour, Amigo did not have our reservation. Excellent last minute effort, by Uriel Pardo,CTM Tours to scramble to get our passes, tickets and travel tickets, saved the day, and we made the tour. Unfortunately, we suffered anxiety and stress and had we not persisted and asked for help from our hotel folks we would not have made the tour which was paid in advance. Someone at Viator dropped the ball!!! As a result of this, we did not book any more tours from Viator. Went to a local tour company located across the street from our hotel and booked 4 more tours to various places with no other problems. Viator was unresponsive to our requests for help. I would not recommend booking trips through Viator!

This was worst experience I have ever had from a transaction with a travel website. Experience started fine I signed up for Machu Picchu tour, I upgraded to get Vistadome train and early access with Archeologist. I received email with voucher within days everything seemed to be good. The voucher indicated I needed to follow with hotel information for pickup and that there would be a mandatory training session day before. I confirmed hotel information through website provided on voucher. Several weeks out from trip I became concerned that no one had contacted me did they get my hotel info, when would they pick up, when was training session? I called multiple numbers, many times that were listed on voucher and they were either not operational or never were answered. I arrived at my hotel

This was such a disappointing trip and most important out of all!!!! I never had as much stress on my holiday like this one because of this Tour. Coming and travelling from Dubai for day and half to finally reach Cusco and see this amazing world wonder was completely jeopardize by this incompetent company and the worst organized tour. Besides the fact that no one contact us before the trip and that we spent entire day calling non exciting number of contact named Alfredo and another number when I got phone down how rude was person on opposite side. Pick up time was 7.30 when we had to remind operator that it's written 5.30, and we have been informed just before putting the phone down that it will be 5.30. Person put the phone down when I asked for contact number of the person who organizes Tour in Cusco or driver just to be calm someone will show up. As we had only 3 more days left, there was no time to organize Tour so we couldn't sleep all night so we went like Zombies when driver finally showed up hour late @6.30. Obviously early access which was promised didn't happened as we reached Machu Picchu @12h. The reason why we paid that amount of money is to have Archaeologist for 4 hours as my friend and I are interested on a professional level and we got Tour Guide for 2 and half hours. We could buy book and walk around ourselves. Voucher clearly mentioned free time to explore... We god 30 minutes as we had to go back for organized lunch. Tour Guide was kind enough to ask if possible to take away before train goes and was denied. Day and half travelling, we managed to enjoy Machu Picchu for 3 hours and nothing promised from Voucher. Only thing I could not believe that I didn't see reviews and allow myself to book this unprofessional company and paid double. For a half of the price we paid we could rent private Guide and enjoy all day. Disappointing and angry are words that would partially describe our disappointment.

WARNING: THIS IS A TRAP!!We nearly missed the train early in the morning due to a 20 min delay to pick us up in hotel. The guide was very friendly but no archaeologist as announced. My electronic voucher said lunch was included but they left us without lunch and we had to pay for it by ourselves. When we came back, the driver left us 15 blocks from hotel and told us to pick up a taxi. I called Darwin, the agency representative to complain and he kept pretending he couldn't hear me. The receptionist in the hotel was so concerned about us and called the tourism authorities and to our surprise we discovered Amigo tours was an illegal agency.

This was a great trip, but the early access wasn't all that exclusive, since there were 2 to 3 bus loads of people who were before us in line. The guide was good, but he certainly was no archaeologist. Also, the 'executive' level train ride back to Cusco was not really in the executive car. it was in the economy car. Not fun after the long wonderful day at Machu Picchu. Finally, the trip was made extra long by about an hour of confusion when making the train to van transfer back to Cusco. They didn't have enough vans for all the people they were assigned to get back to Cusco, so we had to wait and hour or so before we pulled out from the train station.

Our 'bus ride' to Ollantaytambo was a disaster. A local bus taxi picked us up at our hotel and along the way, our driver stopped to pick up multiple local workers and their huge bags of produce. He dropped them off at random locations before taking us to the train station. I'm not sure what went wrong, but someone definitely dropped the ball on booking our ride to the train station. The train ride was scenic, pleasant and comfortable. By far the highlight of the tour was our guide Juan Carlos. He was a local resident and was a SUPER nice guy. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Machu Picchu and told us a lot about the local culture. Couldn't have asked for a better guide.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and the earlier entry helped avoid the crowds that showed up later in the day.

No food, no water, no bathrooms available in Machu Picchu, but the trip is fun and Machu Picchu amazing. If you are going for one day only, get sleep the night before, hydrate well, and use the rest rooms at the entrance to the site.

It was worth all the effort to wake up early to get to Machu Picchu before the rest of the crowd. We enjoy every minute of it. Also, it makes the trip very special to have your own archeologist to explain every detail along the way.
