Full-Day Castles and Celtic History Tour from Dublin: Newgrange, Trim Castle

We enjoyed the trip and learned some and John was really accommodating and informative. However, much is to be desired learning more about the Celts: their origins, history, their interactions with Rome, and their culture. Also would recommend more castles. Trim castle was nice but we missed out on Tara due to flooding and rain but if it is a Castle tour would recommend more castles than just 2.

I'm giving it four stars because I loved the line up of places we went to - Newgrange, Monasterboice, Bective Abbey, Slane Village, Hill of Tara, and Trim Castle. They were a pure joy to go to, and the timing to explore was just enough. I also like that we started at 9:20AM, not too early. The tour group also let me know ahead of time that my schedule on a Sat was not happening and an option to refund or move it to Sunday was available. Great that I decided to join the Sunday group. Our guide, Johnny, was informative, helpful, and very professional. He can be more energetic, though. But overall, he's good.

Fantastic day, just loved it, and Johnny did a Great Job, we had so many places to go, the time was well spent.

Our guide great - Dara (wrong spelling) Was knowledgeable about our sites. Loved Trim Castle, and Slane Monastery. Newgrange was awesome and the Hill Of Tara was worth the visit. I also liked that we only had a small van instead of a bus. I would recommend this tour guide and tour company Hilltoptreks. Also under the visit multiple choice - think you need a couple of more choices. It was my daughter and myself on this trip to Ireland so had to check the friends box

I booked this tour because i was keen to visit Newgrange. All we got to do was stand on a mound outside of the site and look over a hedge at the UNESCO World Heritage site. SOOOO disappointed - as were several others on this trip. So close and yet could not go in. As far as i am concerned this tour - while a pleasant enough day -represented misleading and false advertising. The overview on Viator says explore the UNESCO ruins of Newgrange - this did not happen. It was like being taken to the turn-off to the Giant's Causeway and saying , the Causeway is down there but you can't see it but you can know it is there. The guide said others had said the same to him on other tours......very disappointing as it was my last full day in Ireland and so had no further time to return to the site. I think it is important to point out to customers that YOU DO NOT GO INTO THE NEWGRANGE OR TRIM CASTLE'S Keep. The day was more about a road trip , listening to Irish music and enjoying the scenery... on many stops the guide suggested we read the sign boards - if we wanted info. Also the lunch stop allowed for little choice and went for way too long

I cannot recomend it at all to anyone, sorry. Tour guide was nice but not very talkative or very knowledgeble since in the driving hours he used celtic and irish music to entertain us. Moreover visiting Trims Castle, Hills or Slane, and Monasterboice's he told us to read the panel informations if we wanted to know about their histories. So, expect to spend a lot of time in the van traveling, and take into account that the Trims castle tour is misleading as you're limited on time 30stop, and the ticket does NOT include access to the inside of the castle, you're limited to walking the exterior grounds. Apart from that we didn't visit Slane's Castle because in words of the driver: he don't know why it's offered in the first place if there is no time to visit it. That was also an unfortunate response to it. Finally, the last stop was the largest site, however, we could only park on the side of the road and see the attraction from the hedge of the street. I mean, I knew we would not be able to enter the tomb, but we never thought of seeing it from so far away. We thought that, at least we would be able to experience it from the outer gardents that surrounds it, not simply from a mound in the same street. Overall was very unfortunate. I'll give this tour just one start becase the guide was a nice person and we passed by the Bendictive Monastery where I was allowed to get off the bus to take a picture for a sec.

Amazing tour. The stop for lunch was outstanding. Very friendly people. The driver was very lovely. The places are stupend.

Our Guide was both knowledgeable and humorous. He was able to make our experience a genuine delight and one that we will remember fondly for years to come.

Tour went to a county just north of Dublin. We saw world heritage site the Mound 5200 year old pagan burial site. Castles, abbey ruins and other historical sites. Driver guide was excellent.
