Great time - even with low bioluminescence
, Dec 2021
Even with just a "sparkle" of bioluminescence, the trip was amazing. So fun to kayak in the dark between the mangroves, by the small light of the kayaks in front of you. Seeing iguanas in the trees, listening to the sounds of the mangroves, seeing the stars. All around great time. And even just "sparkling" water is magical!
Natural wonder!
, Nov 2021
We loved the kayaking through the canal, listening to all the night sounds and viewing the amazing stars. Although we were told in advance the bioluminescence wasn’t very good, the journey was well worth the trip. Loved it!
Do it, fam! They’ll take good care of you.

We had a great experience on the Bio Bay tour with Kayak Puerto Rico! We were running a little late, so they called us to check-in and then helped us hustle out so we didn’t miss our group. The guides were friendly and funny and kept us safe. They also contacted us a day early to let us know the visibility was low and gave us the option to reschedule or cancel with a full refund. They even gave us a discount when we decided to go ahead with the tour on the low visibility night. Overall we had a wonderful time and were impressed with their professionalism.

Best adventure ever

It was a very unique and amazing experience. The best part was finally seeing the water shine and just enjoy the peace at the lagoon

Hola Sofia, Thank you for this great review! It's so great to hear you enjoyed the tour. Hasta la próxima!
We could not see light in the water very well. We are still waiting on the pictures to be emailed to us.

Kayaking was fun. Staff was very helpful. It was nice meeting other travelers. I would do it again. Thanks.
50/50 shot
, Oct 2021
While it was a lot of fun going through the mangroves, the trip its self was just ok. You have to wait on a bunch of people and as an active kayaker that was frustrating. As well as it really depends how much you see the lights. Definitely not what the pictures show. Just a few sparkles in the water. Also show up 30 minutes late. They told us 7:30 and we weren’t in the water until after 8:30. We left other things early to make it on time to this just to find out we didn’t have to. Over all I wouldn’t do this again.

Enjoy The Adventure / Leave The Gear
, Oct 2021
The time you spend in the lagoon (see photos) after kayaking through the red mangrove forest was soooo peaceful and relaxing! Looking up at the stars and the reflected moonlight off the water was beautiful. Photography Tip: most equipment (GoPro, sub $800 camera+lens, etc) will be a waste of time and a flash would only make everything worse. The only equipment that could handle this lowlight situation is a camera that can shoot clean photos in the high iso range of 3200+ (minimum) for the bioluminescence or a smartphone with a nightshot /astro photography mode (Pixel 2XL for me) for the silhouette shots. If you're unsure what 3200-6400 iso is, just enjoy the experience and don't worry about the gear you don't have. It's well worth the cost even without the photos.
Full moon didn’t allow us...
, Sep 2021
Full moon didn’t allow us to see the luminous bay. It was terrible, they should not schedule it when they know that it was not visible
, Sep 2021
Very very very underwhelming. Kayaks were poor to maybe somewhat decent quality at best. There was arguing between the guides and the groups. Instructions where minimal and led to a 15-20 kayak “crash”/jumble up that took the majority of our time to get out of and back on track. The bioluminescent plankton was nearly totally invisible. We were there in optimal conditions as we planned our trip around this event. The experience was so unfulfilling that they told us to put a tarp over our head to see if the phenomenon was a little more visible. The visibility improved so sparsely that the tarp and everything else we had done to amplify experience was 100% obsolete. We traveled over an hour from our hotel in old San Juan to this place and did not make it back home until 12:30 am at night with no food or dining options open we had to go to sleep hungry, tired, underwhelmed and very disappointed.

Do it in the dark!
, Sep 2021
What a fun experience: kayaking through a pitch-black mangrove forest out to the bio bay with Kayaking Puerto Rico! Beware, what you see will not likely compare with the photos of luminescence that you see online but, still, if you are in Puerto Rico, it's an experience not to be missed. Great time with a great crew! Thanks!
