Begin with pickup at your hotel in Cairo or Giza, then travel to the City of the Dead, or Qarafa, in an air-conditioned minivan with Wi-Fi onboard. Used as a burial ground since the 10th century, the City of the Dead is both a cemetery and a fascinating living community, where families live, work, and play amongst the graves. Visit the graveyard with a local guide to learn about life in Qarafa, and see the highlights of this unique destination.

Continue to the Citadel of Cairo, a medieval Islamic fortification with panoramic views of the city. See the city’s most iconic mosque—the Alabaster Mosque built by Mohamed Ali Pasha—whose domes and slender minarets are classic examples of Ottoman-style architecture. Tour a courtyard that’s entirely lined in alabaster, see the ornate interior of the domes, and take in the brass clock tower that King Louis Philippe offered to Muhammad Ali in 1845. After visiting the Alabaster Mosque, make the return trip to your hotel, where this tour concludes.

We had a great tour of the City of the Dead and the Alabaster Mosque with our phenomenal guide Fatmia with Tree of Life Tours. She was very knowledgeable so it was really interesting to speak with her about past and present Egyptian history. On our way back to our hotel she treated us to fresh squeezed sugar cane juice which was delicious. We would highly recommend this tour with Fatmia!!

Interesting tour, some tombs are beautiful monuments. It was sad to see the life of some of the poorest quarters of Cairo. We met a friendly lady who showed us the grave house where her family lives. Our guide Mohammed explained to us interestingly the highlights of the mosque.

Loved this tour! Manar was wonderful and very knowledgeable. She was very friendly and knew a lot about the city. We got to see what Egypt was really like and really immerse our-self in Egyptian culture. We appreciated everything we saw that day. The tour really changed my life.
