Grand Cayman East End Sightseeing Tour

We looked at this tour before heading to Grand Cayman; wanted to see Pedro St. James and the Botanic Park. Decided not to book it though because there were no reviews. In the lobby of the Westin we found a brochure by Island LUXE Tours and called up. The payment wasn't taken over the phone, although I asked. We requested Saturday which was booked so Monday was our next option. Turns out Easter Monday is observed in Cayman so they sent a kid from Jamaica to fill in and although he was a nice enough person he had no clue about what a tour guide actually does. Had to ask his name (David) because we initially thought he was just our driver. When we arrived at Pedro St. James we were shuffled off to Sandy the in house tour guide who apparently is a descendant of one of the families that occupied the house back in the day. He was very knowledgeable but just wanted to stick to his script and rushed us through. I'm recovering from foot surgery and on crutches so I couldn't keep up and didn't hear a lot of what he said. The property is beautiful and rich with history; definitely worth checking out at a more relaxed pace. At the Botanic Park David walked around with us but since he isn't a native of Cayman, or apparently accustomed to being a tour guide, he didn't have much to say so we were left to scout around for the blue iguana on our own and just look at the gardens rather than being guided on what is what. The park is all pebbled walkways so I had a bit of difficulty on crutches and can imagine strollers might be tough as well. Everything was beautiful to see and we were glad to have spotted a few iguanas. David skipped the Wreck of the Ten Sails stop; not sure why...my wife figured that out when she saw we drove past it and double checked the brochure back in the room. He showed us the blow holes and the Flip Flop tree though which we enjoyed. The included lunch was skipped because of the holiday we weren't previously aware of; apparently the places they frequent were closed. At the end I took out my card to pay and was told I needed cash so we had to go to an ATM; would've been nice to know especially since I asked. This has a tremendous amount of potential as the combination of stops is a good one but it needs to be better advertised and delivered by someone who actually knows what they are doing.

We had an excellent tour of the Grand Cayman area to the east end of the island. Our tour guide was fantastic answered all of the questions we had and then some. Would recommend this to others heading to the Cayman's. The only minor difficulty we had was locating our contact at the cruise port, received assistance from port employees
