Departure Time

8:00 AM
Your expert guide and friendly driver will collect you from your Guatemala City hotel and transport you in air-conditioned comfort to Cerro de la Cruz. You’ll marvel at the cityscape laid out before you as you look out from the tallest hilltop. Take in the beauty of terracotta rooftops and cobblestoned streets that give this historic town its colonial vibe.

From there, make your way to the city’s central plaza and pay a visit to the iconic San Francisco Church, where the shrine of Peter of St. Joseph Betancur is located. Your guide will point out the arch of Santa Catalina as you wander the streets and share the story of how nuns once used an underground passage to cross the street.

You’ll make your way to the beautiful Baroque-style La Merced Church, which was once the wealthiest in the city. Follow your guide to the Jade Museum, where you’ll watch local craftsmen carving these green stones into beautiful jewelry.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense) before heading to the nearby coffee plantation, where you’ll learn about coffee production and harvesting before sampling the locally grown beans and making your way back to your Guatemala City hotel.

We had a lovely day in Antigua. However, we had requested an English speaking guide, and our guide's English was so heavily accented that we had great difficulty understanding him.

We got lucky, we were the only two on the tour for the day. Our guide was very good at following the pace we set, had perfect english plus 3 other languages, and let us detour as we desired. Push for more local and authentic and you’ll get it. The van was nearly brand new and very comfortable.

An easy drive from Guatemala City...
Navnit B
, Nov 2014
An easy drive from Guatemala City. Interesting historic town but watch out for the very uneven cobble-stone streets and pavements. Be prepared for a lot of walking. The views from Cerro de la Cruz are lovely. The coffee museum is interesting. In their gift shop they sell a coffee liquore - it is really good. A lot of choice in handicrafts. Of course do bargain. Our guide, Armando, knows the town and its history very well and kept us engaged and interested throughout. Overall a nice trip but the walking over the cobbled stones really tired us out. The tour part as organized by Viator was good.
