3.5 out of 5

3.5 better than average but I would not describe this trip as Very Good. Reading The Island by Victoria Hislop is a must to enjoy this trip, without reading the book Spinalonga lacks context and the information provided on the tour is inadequate. The stops before Spinalonga are nice but no different from any Greek Town. The tour company communicated with us well and the guides themselves were lovely.

Spent more time picking up and dropping off passengers than on the tour

Our pick up was 20 minutes walk from hotel, this didnt seem to be the same for others.it took over 1 hour to leave Heraklion after picking up passengers.then continued all the way there picking up along the coast. We were informed at 10 30 p.m. the night before that our pick up was 7.05 am. For a 9 am tour. We arrived back at about 8 p.m. a very long unfulfilling day.

Excellent trip well organised

I was very impressed with all aspects of the trip. The itinerary was excellent with just the right time allowed on each part of the trip. Adequate time (1 hour) in Agios Nikolaos, an introductory for a few minutes and all the time was free tim eot wonder around the shops. Spectacular views en- route to Elounda to meet the boat "Blue Star 1, we had an hour to swim in clear turquoise seas, although the beach which is small and busy most people choose to swim or forget the beach entirely and swim from the boat. The boat had lots of room (we went the last week of August with ample seating). The BBQ food was excellent freshy cooked/prepared we had pork and salad, glass of wine and an orange. There was a bar to purchase drink as well, although we didn't have any. Spinalonga was the highlight of the trip with fantastic views, excellent optional guided tours through the trip commentary was useful enroute from the hotels to Agios Nikolaos. We went with our 2 children aged 6 and 8 and they also had a great time and would recommend for families. The guides were official guides from the Greece Tourist Board and did a fantastic job of keeping the group to time and provided some really interesting optional history talks at Spinalonga.

well organised and interesting day

Pick up (and drop off ) from our hotel in Sisi was well coordinated, the guide was totally bi-lingual (English and German) and that was not a problem because there were no long monologues in either language. The bathing off shore was fun for some people - but for those of us who didn't feel like it, it was lovely just sitting on the boat, enjoying the amazingly clear water, watching the fish etc. Don't have great expectations from the meal (we had vegetarian). Reading Victoria Hislop's book "The Island " beforehand really made the trip to Spinalonga and, Eastern part of Crete more meaningfull.

More of a bus ride than a tour
Kerry S
, Aug 2019
The tour guide was more interested in telling us our bus number and how to get a vegetarian lunch than actually giving much interesting information. More time was spent at the beach swimming than on Spinalonga, and there was no time to explore yourself. They didn't even take us to the top of the island. Food was pretty good, but 1.45pm was a bit late for lunch, at least according to my belly. Meh.

The tour was well organised, food delicious and Spinalonga really interesting. The only downside was that it took longer to get there than expected and the coach could not pick us up near our apartment. Otherwise a good tour.
