Informative tour of British Museum
, Sep 2021
Andy was an excellent guide and we enjoyed our visit to the British Museum. We had been there before, however, having an expert to not only guide us to the highlights but to give narration to the stories behind them made the trip much more rewarding than a casual browse and read. I only gave it 4 stars because of the museum, not the guide, because restrooms were not as easy to get to and the cafe was a disappointment - located in the main entry hall cafeteria style.

Becky was our tour guide. She's very knowledgable and fun. She led us to a couple of interesting and historic exhibits. Along the way, she gave us a lot of introductions and background information. The tour lasted a little bit over 2 hours, so we were not very tired. My family love this tour.
Should you spring for a private tour? Yes!

My husband and I have visited the British Museum a number of time previously but each time I feel a bit overwhelmed and don't know where to look first or what to look at. I decided that this time we would engage someone to give us the highlights and help us get our arms around the offerings at this renowned museum. Two friends from San Francisco joined us as well so there were a total of 6 people in this tour. We booked through Viator and the process was extremely easy. We were given a clearly defined meeting point and time and the connection went without a hitch. Our guide was a young Scottish graduate student named Andrew who clearly knew his stuff and loved sharing the information. The tour lasted around 2 hours and the cost for two of us was $171USD. In two hours you still can't see everything in the museum but you see the highlights and hear about them in more detail. I felt like this gave me the cliff notes to come back and explore on my own in a more systematic way. There were a number of school groups there so the place was jumping but we got around pretty easily. I would recommend booking a private tour if, like me, you feel like you need some direction.

Alex was the worlds best tour...

Alex was the worlds best tour guide! He was fantastic! We had a ten year old and a thirteen year old and two adults. We all loved history but thought that we really lacked any l relevant knowledge, especially for the children. Alex selected items as we went round the museum that were the best fit for us. His passion REALLY enthused us! He was patient, thoughtful and efficient. We would like to go on more tours with Alex. If you want to visit The British Museum and you have a group like ours, you must do this small group tour, otherwise it could be overwhelming.I would not hesitate to recommend this tour.
we very much enjoyed our small-group...

we very much enjoyed our small-group tour we were the only two in the group, our guide Becky asked us our main interest, as this is a huge museum, and adapted the tour likewise also showing us the other most interesting or controversial pieces of the museum. the tour also took us to a few lesser known civilizations and sparked our interest in those . Manny thanks to Becky for making our history tour a succes
