Some good, some bad

We did multiple tours throughout the county with Egypt Best Holidays but this review will focus solely on this 3-day tour. THE GOOD - Our travel agent, Peter, was very responsive and accommodating. He deserves 5 stars! - The tours were private so you can see everything at your own pace (some guides will rush you tho). - The tour gave us flexibility to book our own hotels. We didn’t like any of the tours that had accommodations built-in to the package as some hotels we’re not to our standards. - Shout out to our driver Adel who was genuinely nice and made us feel comfortable. - Kudos to our guide in Abu Simbel. He was thorough! THE BAD - This travel agency works with independent guides, so you roll the dice on what kind of person you get each day. - Some guides smoked at every turn. We had a guide who smoked while we were on a private boat to the Philae Temple and another who smoked every time we stopped to take photos or got in temples that didn't allow guides. Some did smoke away from us but it's hard to ignore the smell inside an air-conditioned car. - What you want to see and what the guide thinks you should see doesn’t always align. Outside the Unfinished Obelisk, our guide told us that it was just a carved rock and discouraged us from going in. At the Valley of the Kings, our guide told us that King Tut’s tomb was the smallest and it wasn't worth seeing. We flew thousands of miles so nothing was too small or irrelevant for us to see. I don’t understand how guides think it’s ok to discourage you from seeing these places yet encourage you to visit places like papyrus, oil, spice or carpet-making establishments to "enhance" the tour. It’s uncomfortable because these places always offer you a drink, so you feel awkward leaving without buying anything. - Some guides prefer to explain things in advance. At Hatshepsut's temple, our guide gave his explanation then told us that he was going to pray and wait for us while we go take pictures. We couldn’t remember everything he said. Also, we were left to eavesdrop on other guides who we're pointing out things to their tourists that our guide didn't. ADVICE FOR TRAVELERS - Don't expect to have the same tour guide throughout the three days - Ask the travel agency how much EGP you need to bring each day for temple entrance fees - Ask for non-smoking drivers and guides if you are sensitive to smoke, have asthma or traveling with children - Don’t let the guides discourage you from visiting sites you want to see
