Departure Point

Traveler pickup is offered

Meet your guide during pickup at your hotel in Negril, Ocho Rios, or Negril. Depart on your evening ride to the Luminous Lagoon, in the Trelawny Parish on Jamaica’s north coast. The lagoon is home to millions of microscopic bioluminescent organisms and is one of the country's natural wonders.

When you arrive at the lagoon, transfer to a small boat and head out into the lagoon under the light of the moon. Aboard the boat, enjoy a complimentary rum punch and listen to your expert guide tell you about what makes the lagoon's tiny inhabitants glow.

If you like, dive into the water, only five feet (1.5 meters) deep and one of a few bioluminescent lagoons in the world. As you move, watch the tiny harmless creatures light up blue-green around your body. When your luminous adventure is over, enjoy transportation back to your hotel.

Lagoon is nice but Viator is not

Loved the lagoon itself and appreciated our driver Michael. But Viator scheduled our pickup five hours before the event time, so we wasted our day of vacation sitting at the dock. I would absolutely recommend checking out the lagoon but not to book through Viator.

The actual tour was very exciting, educational and fun. The length of the time on water was also nice. The transportation was an issue. We arrived at the pier a hour early and had to wait 40 mins for our driver to return to pick us up. Missing out dinner reservations on NYE.

Great Luminescent Lagoon trip Recommended

, Dec 2020
Our trip activity was booked and confirmed within hours. The tour guide arrived on time and was very professional, wearing his mask and had a clean air conditioned vehicle. He was very helpful and informative when traveling to our destination the Luminescent Lagoon. He stoped at a nice clean sanitizer gift shop with great discounts. He was very helpful when we arrived at our final destination. We recommend you ask for Michael his a great tour guide. Thank you Michael.

Amazing experience but limited time in the water
rkadar
, Feb 2020
This place is a must! Such a unique experience! The trip itself is way overpriced as you only spend about 15 minutes in the water and they are urging you to get out of the water and back on the boat. That was not right! It's the local boating tour, so not sure how you can get around it, maybe if you can charter your own boat.

Amazing Experience

It was a little intimidating at first because you are getting into a large body of water and it is pitch black outside....The water was sooo warm and it was not that deep but it was amazing. I consider myself a strong swimmer but I recommend taking a life jacket because you are having to tread water and move the water around a lot to get the glow of the lagoon..You get pretty tired!!! Its a really cool experience and I would do it again!!!! Also-lift your arms slowly out of the water and you can see little glow spots on your arms-really cool!!!!

The pick up people were an hour late picking us up.. the event was suppose to be 2.5 hours with the late pick up we were only able to enjoy 45 mins of this event... the water barely lights up... horrible experience
icon Response from Host , Sep 2019
I am sorry that you did not enjoy the Lagoon. this is a natural phenomenon and so no one can control how bright it might bev. Rainy days it is not as bright because the water gets too cold and so the organisms stay lower down to keep warm. We encourage guests to swim as that is when the real effects are experienced. the boat ride is yes about 45 minutes with the swim included but we have to add in the journey time there and back as well. there is also the fire show whilst waiting at the lagoon.

Use another tour company

The lagoon is definitely an amazing, incredible experience but go with a different tour company. The bus was old and questionable and our driver and tour guide were not happy or friendly.
