Full Day Exclusive Excursion to Segesta, Erice & Trapani Salt Flats from Palermo

We had a wonderful day exploring an area west of Palermo. I highly recommend this all day tour which includes the temple at Segesta, Erice, and Trapani. Throughout the day we learned a lot about Sicily and this areas history. Umbereto was very attentive and ensured we were comfortable and having a good time.

We did this tour with Umberto in November, 2021. A guide for the day was Umberto and he was excellent! We started the day with the drive to Segesta. A spectacular morning with very few people at the location. A ticket to visit the temple had to be bought at the small shop on location. We almost had the place to ourselves. There was not enough time to climb up to the theater, although there was a bus ride available for extra charge. We concentrated on the temple and had a lovely hour there. Then it was off to Erice. A few hairpin bends around the mountain and we were on top at Erice. A beautiful village from the Middle Ages. Some lovely churches and a tiny little bakery Pasticceria Maria Grammatico that churned out mouthwatering delicacies. Samples were given out and we bought some cookies to have later as well! The Genovisi was melt in your mouth good just as Umberto had touted! The fog rolled in and gave the place a magical look, but our view of the valley disappeared. Even so, a beautiful trip. Out last top was Trapani. A lunch in a restaurant by the sea, then a short walk around the old city center then a short drive to the more than 2400 year old salt flats to learn the 600 year old history of small enchanting windmills. September is a good time if you wish to see salt harvest. It was a fascinating journey through time and how salt has transformed from being worth its weight in gold to bring something that we don’t even notice unless it is lacking in our food! We bought a small sample to try at home. Loved the day! Umberto is very solicitous and very kind. He checked up on us a few days later to make sure our rental car trip down to Agrigento was smooth and our travels were good!
