Return Details

Returns to original departure point
After pickup at a central location in Palm Desert, enjoy a scenic drive through the Coachella Valley, until you reach your starting point.

Your guide explains the ecology of this desert environment and takes you to see an underground creek that has been forced up to the surface by the fault lines, creating a green oasis that supports a range of plant and animal life.

Then go to a recreated Native American site that illustrates how the native Cahuilla people managed to live in this harsh climate. See homes, a sweat lodge, and artifacts, and hear details about the survival skills needed for living in the desert.

Next up, get a close look at the San Andreas fault on an easy walk into a slot canyon. Your guide shows you arreas of the rock that reveal the region's unique geology and discusses the impact of the collision of the Pacific and North American plates.

At the end of your tour, your guide returns you to the original departure point.

Highlight of our Palm Springs vacation
, Aug 2021
Seeing a real oasis in the middle of the desert was a unique experience. Our tour guide Morgan was so friendly and knowledgeable and she drove that jeep through the twists of the terrain like a boss! My 4 kids really enjoyed this exciting ride and learned some fun facts along the way. It was the local highlight of our trip and very memorable with all the beautiful scenery and so many great photo opportunities!

As comprehensive as they come!
, Nov 2020
What a fun tour! Our guide (Mike) was wonderful! FULL of information that went far beyond what we had expected, with explanations of the geology, botany, biology, hydrology and culture of the Coachella Valley, from an explanation of Plate Tectonics to examining the component of some coyote scat for where he/she might have most recently dined. We bombarded Mike with questions, and he had the answer for them all. Anyone who lives in California or has any interest in the San Andreas Fault (source of the inevitable "Big One" to come) will really enjoy this tour!

Our guide (Morgan) was excellent. Loved all the information. I found the experience fascinating. I didn’t realize we’d get info on agriculture and the indigenous people.
