Step back in time to learn how Parmigiano-Reggiano, known as the 'king of cheeses,' is made with this visit to a 'caseficio,' or cheese factory. Find out why this is the provinces of Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia, plus parts of Bologna and Mantova, are the only ones that can produce authentic parmigiano-reggiano – elsewhere it has to go by another name.

Watch cheesemakers at work as they cook the milk to separate the whey and lift the Parmigiano-Reggiano. See how the cheese goes on to be salted and shaped next, followed by placement in the aging room (the 'stagionatura' in Italian). Admire the rows and rows of aging wheels of cheese that perfume the air.

Learn about the strict tests required by the consortium before the cheese wheels are permitted to be sold as authentic Parmigiano-Reggiano, including hammering the wheels, and the fire branding that takes place. Finish the tour by tasting cheese along with honey and local wine. Pickup and drop-off from your Parma hotel is included.

What a fun tour for the cheese lover.

Fabulous tour. Mattia was highly knowledgeable and showed a passion for cheese making. It was a highlight trying the cheese warm, right out of the vat. Wasn’t sure how it was going to taste. I learned quite a lot on this tour. The tastings at the end were quite delicious. Definitely recommend to anyone considering this tour.
Fantastic - highly recommended

One of the highlights of our time in Parma! Pick-up at 8:30 in a nice, clean vehicle. You go straight to the farm just outside of Parma in the countryside and watch the cheese makers do their magic. The farm was a fairly small one, which made it far better than going to one of the larger industrial farms. Matteo, the guide, knew everything there is to know about Parmigiano-Reggiano, from the food they have to give to the cows down to the chemical process that takes place during each stage. His passion for it added a lot to the experience. Very generous during the tasting + great hospitality! Lots of space throughout the farm, so it was also easy to spread out for social distancing. Honestly one of the best food tours I have done. Wouldn't change a thing.

We loved this tour and it was a highlight of our trip. Make sure you confirm the pickup time, because it was 30 minutes before we thought it was, but fortunately figured it out early! The tour was small and incredibly interesting. I highly recommend Parma Look!!
Amazing Time

We had an amazing time during our 4 person Parmigiano Reggiano tour by the cheese master's son. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed our nearly private tour and the cheese tasting following the tour. The pride this family takes in its knowledge and end product is shown throughout.

Almost Excellent

Matteo was wonderful. Most informative and very pleasant. The only hiccup to the event was for Viator to inform us up from that our pickup was for 1/2 hr before the tour. Had they stated that in the information up front or the confirmation, this would be a 5 star event. It is a simple fix for Viator!

Had a fun time visiting a farm where Parmigiano cheese was produced. Very labor intensive and a process that must be constantly monitored. Learned a great deal and the cheese tasting at the end was fantastic. Our guide was the cheese master's son and he spoke very good English and knew the entire process in great detail.
Excellent tour
